Last week the FS crew worked on the middle fork of Ditch Creek, clearing and improving washed out sections of trail.

The Silver Star work on Teton Pass continues to progress: they are already below Crater Lake and moving down Old Pass Road. Heavy equipment remains on Old Pass Road during this project. Pathways Report, August 10th, 2011

Below you will find today’s trails and pathways report for Jackson Hole. Friends of Pathways and the Forest Service have trail crews out on the systems daily, working hard on trail maintenance and construction. Friends of Pathways also works with Jackson Hole Community Pathways and Teton County Parks and Recreation to ensure pathways are swept and safe.

Trail Report, July 20, 2011
Greater Snow King Area/Munger Mountain Area/Teton Pass Area

• Wiggle (GSKA) - Complete for the season.
• Cache Creek Sidewalk - Complete for the season.
• Hage Reroute, Bridge 4&5 - Complete for the season.
• Turnpike repair to be completed this season on Hagen between Bridge 3-4, Salt Lick Draw and Gin Pole Draw on Putt-Putt. These projects will be completed in mid-August.
• Game Creek - Almost 200 hours have been spent on GC in an attempt to restore the trail and remove the water. Work is complete for the season.
• Phillips Ridge Trail - Work is just starting on maintenance. Folks should note that parts of this project are less than a year ld and work will continue.
• Phillips Canyon - Crews will be in there for the remainder of the season to complete sight distance, tread widening, fall zone and two to three bridges.
• Blacks is cleared, work will be forth coming and will continue for the season.
• Powerline Jump Trail will be finished this week and should be open and good to go very soon.
• Kiosks - Crews are in the process of building six new kiosks for the Teton Pass and Greater Snow King Areas. This will take the rest of July.
• Ski Lake is getting a face lift; 12 workers will be in there for the week.
• Tunnel Trail - scheduled to be started on August 1st, with machinery. This project is estimated to take two weeks and should be open September 1st.

Pathways Report, July 20, 2011
Pathways will be installing a “pathway travel lane” for users on the North 89 pathway south of the Fish Hatchery Road. There is an unfinished section of pathway just south of the Fish Hatchery, and pathway users are required to use the highway shoulder between the completed sections. Traffic delineators will be placed on the shoulder to separate pathway users from motor vehicles. The “travel lane” will be in place until the pathway is completed later this summer.

Greater Snow King Area/Munger Mountain Area/Teton Pass Area
Last week Friends of Pathways’ crews fixed several problem areas in Game Creek, moving the tread higher where the beaver pond had risen, and building a bridge to replace the flooded crossing just below the West Game junction. The Forest Service crew was off last week (they work 8 days on and 6 days off).

Friday Morning Volunteer Days in Cache Creek continue to be successful - thanks to all who have come out to work! With volunteer help and that of Operation Purple- a military service group from Teton Science School (pictured above) - the new “Wiggle” trail connecting the Cache Creek Sidewalk to Putt Putt is now open. It offers a great beginner loop from the Cache Creek trailhead that is approximately 3 miles long.

The Greater Snow King Area trails are all open and in good shape. There are still a few problems in West Game where reroutes are needed as well as one seeping section of the Game Creek trail that users should go around.

Munger trails are all open and rideable.

Lower trails in the Teton Pass Area are open, but mid and higher elevation trails still have many sections that remain under snow, and/or have trees down yet to be removed. The Arrow Trail is nearly snow free until the corner towards the SnoTel area where drifts persist. The Ridge Trail is drying out from the Fish Creek side and offers a nice out and back. Jimmy’s Mom is in good shape for the downhill bikers, just be advised to be cautious of up hill traffic on Old Pass Road.

Teton Freedom Riders are hard at work rebuilding the Powerline Jumps. This is not finished, but TFR encourages those interested to go over and check out the progress being made.

Please beware of wildlife and early season conditions on all trails - carry bear spray! A cat (mountain lion) was spotted on Linda’s Trail last week. Baby moose are now appearing in the lower Teton Pass Area. Please use caution as Momma Moose may not be in the mood to deal with you or your dog.

Pathways Report, July 6, 2011
All pathways are open and in great shape! Two new bike corrals were put in place last week - one at Betty Rock and one at The Wort Hotel!
The fence on Garaman, where it comes to Gregory Lane has been fixed. Parks and Rec is sweeping the system today and tomorrow. Friday they will be focusing on the line-of-sight trimming on Hwy 390.

Pathways will remain open during construction/maintenance, but users should exercise caution when passing through construction areas. Users should remember to keep their dogs under control – dogs are required on leashes within the Town of Jackson, pick up after their dogs using mutt-mitt bags, and place the used mutt-mitt bags in the trash cans. Walkers, rollers, and riders should stay to the right, allowing two-way traffic, announce their approaches from behind, and signal all intentions, including changes of direction. Finally, please remember motorized vehicles are not permitted on the pathways.

Greater Snow King Area/Munger Mountain Area/Teton Pass Area
Last week Friends of Pathways’ crews dug drainage on Hagen, Crater, and Lower History trails - all of which are free of snow and passable with a few muddy seeps to walk around. They also improved the bottom section of the Ridge Trail, which is clear of snow up to the berm section (with a few seeps to walk around). The Forest Service crew finished the Rock Creek bridge at Munger, connecting the motorized trailhead to all of the trails there, which are open and clear of snow.

Friday’s volunteer day had a good turnout with volunteers working on the new “Wiggle” section which will connect the Cache Creek Sidewalk up to Putt Putt. Teton Science Schools “Roads Scholars” (pictured above) worked with trail crews this morning on that same section.

The Snow King and Cache Creek area trails are riding well. The Ferrins saddle meadow is almost free of snow and Wilson Canyon is snow-free with several seeping muddy sections to avoid. Josie’s Ridge is totally clear of snow except for a 5 foot section of snow near the very top.

The Cache/Game mountain bike race has been postponsed. Please check with Teton County Parks and Rec for more info.
Baby moose are now appearing in the lower Teton Pass Area. Please use caution as Momma Moose may not be in the mood to deal with you or your dog.

Finally, please remember that if mud is piling up on your shoes or tires or horses the trails are too wet to use. Be Responsible! Summer is coming (eventually); just be a little patient so the trails will be in good shape for the whole season.

All pathways are open – clear of snow, gravel, and debris! Users may encounter some areas of gravel in certain locations after rainstorms, but the whole system is swept weekly, and scheduled for the first seasonal mow in the next few weeks.

Minor construction and landscaping near the Hidden Ranch Tunnel on the Garaman Pathway this week and next.

Asphalt patching on the Paul Merritt (S 89) Pathway between High School Road and South Park Loop Road is expected to begin in the next week or so.
