Friends of Pathways, Teton Freedom Riders, Jackson Hole Ski Patrol and the Forest Service will host National Trails Day on SATURDAY, JUNE 5TH. ”With over 150 volunteers expected, National Trails Day should have the biggest turnout in the history of the event in Teton County”, stated Tim Young, Friends of Pathways Executive Director. National Trails Day is an opportunity for trail users to volunteer their time to make trails close to home sustainable and improve functionality for future use.

The Forest Service always looks forward to National Trails Day as the kick-off for the summer trail season. “This year we are particularly excited about the opportunity to join with so many partners to improve a wonderful multi-use trail system and at the same time honor Big Wally and our long-time partners at Red Top Meadows. The trails at Munger Mountain are popular with mountain bikers, horse riders, and hikers and also are open for motorcycle use from July 1 - September 9 so we encourage everyone to come out and help make this trail system really work for all users.” said Linda Merigliano, BTNF District Program Manager.

The day of service will begin at 9am at the Munger Mountain Trailhead, approximately 10 miles down Fall Creek Rd at the north end of Red Top Meadows. BTNF Trail Crew will be leading up the efforts assigning volunteers to work parties and assisting with trail building technique. Partners Pica’s Taqueria, Tram Bar and Snake River Brewing will provide lunch and beverages. Wilson Backcountry Sports will provide a raffle for those who participate. Volunteers are asked to wear work clothes, shoes and gloves and bring their own mug for beverages. Carpooling is encouraged as parking will be limited. Camping will be provided and participants are encouraged to hang around after dig day to celebrate. The 2010 National Trails Day will be in tribute to Big Wally, with over 50 members of the Jackson Hole Ski Patrol dedicated to building trail in his memory.
