Jay P's Bike Loaded and Ready for a Long Adventure

So you’ve jumped into Fat Biking and you’re thinking about a full day cruise or a longer adventure. You are going to need to pack a lunch, water, extra puffy, some extra layers and maybe a sleeping system. Instead of stuffing it all in a backpack, we’ve got racks, frame bags and seat bags designed to carry your stuff efficiently on your bike. Check out all our winter adventure accessories here.

Let’s start with what you need to carry the bulky stuff: Frame Bags & Seat Bags

Why would you want a frame bag instead of a hydration pack? Keeping the weight off your back will help reduce fatigue and help you regulate your temperature as your back won’t get so sweaty. Frame bags carry all your stuff within the triangle of your bike and can help keep your bike more balanced than carrying your stuff in panniers on a rear or front rack. Frame bags have a large double zippered pocket on the drive side of the bike. This large pocket is awesome for your puffy, your lunch as well as a spare tube and tools. The non-drive side generally has a slim pocket that is great for stashing a map and some food. We carry bags from Hamilton Threadworks, a local Victor company, specializing in custom frame bags in the store and Revelate Designs bags in our on-line store.

Still need to carry more stuff? Try a seat bag from Revelate Designs to carry larger stuff, like a parka or other warm clothes, on your seat post. A couple of tips for your seat bag: keep whatever you put in there light - try just putting in your bulky, but light weight parka or extra clothes in there. And seat bags require a certain amount of clearance between the seat, seat post and rear tire, so if you are on the shorter side and don’t have a ton of seat post showing, a seat bag may not be the right option for you.

What about the little stuff?

Looking for a handy place to carry a water bottle but now your frame bag has eliminated your waterbottle cage? Or do you want easy access to your camera or some food?

  • No problem, the Mountain Feedbag straps to your handlebars and stem and provides a great place to stash your insulated water bottle (and don’t forget to fill that bottle with warm water which will help delay your water from freezing) and a gel or candy bar. Jay also likes to use his Mountain Feedback to manage his trash on his long tours. Think about it - you’ve just scarfed down that second Tram Bar and you need to find a place to put yet another wrapper - without stopping you can stuff those waste wrappers into the mesh pockets of the Mountain Feedbag!
  • A top tube bag is a great place to carry a camera, your phone or some food.

  • The sweet thing about all the accessories is they can work together as a system so if you need all the room you can get for an overnighter, grab a frame bag, seat bag, Mountain Feedback and a top tube bag. But if you are just taking a short ride and need only to carry a water bottle, you can just carry the Mountain Feedbag.

Tried & True Racks

Are you a rack person? Salsa makes the Alternator Rack which is extra wide to accommodate fat tires! So you can still use your favorite panniers! We also carry the Anything Cage from Salsa that allows you to carry a multitude of things in a small rack.
