Are you a true mountain athlete adventurer? This serious question can be put to the test on Saturday, July 7th at the Outerlocal Summer Games, a festival/stage race that includes bouldering, a mountain bike and trail running leg up Snow King followed by a paragliding leg around East Gros Ventre Butte.
The brain child behind this event is Christian Beckwith, the founding editor of Outerlocal.com, a social media website for adventure athletes. He is the former editor of The American Alpine Journal, the founding editor of Alpinist Magazine, the founder of The Alpinist Film Festival and The Mountain Yodel, and the coordinator of the Teton Boulder Project.

Mountain Bike Leg:
Cary Smith, Jackson’s recent record setter for the Cache Game mountain bike race and overall mountain biker phenom, developed the mountain bike race course. Cary worked hard to refine the course to include as much singletrack as possible particularly on the descents. The mountain bike course is 3.66 miles long and features about 1,000’ of climbing. The Pro and Master’s divisions will race 3 laps while the Rec divisions will complete 2 laps.
Racers can participate as individuals or as part of a team. In addition, there is no need to complete all the legs, you could simply participate in just one leg if you wish. Online registration is at Athlete360.
Clinics, Non-Profits, Food & Music:
Outerlocal has partnered with Exum Mountain Guides, One to One Wellness, Inversion Yoga, Dreamchasers, Enclosure Climbing Center and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides for clinics that will help make you a better runner, mountain biker, climber, pilot or mountain athlete.
In addition you can check out what all the great local non-profits are up to by visiting their booths. Friends of Pathways, Teton Adaptive Sports, Jackson Hole Kayak Club, the American Alpine Club and the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club will all be on hand to showcase their work.
Want to sample great food and great drinks? Food and beverages from Snake River Brewery, Pearl Street Meat and Fish, Teton Thai, Everest Momo Shack, Chippy’s Kitchen and Fine Dining will keep you sated all day long.
Even if you just want to kick back and chill out, you’ll still have a blast. In conjunction with JacksonHoleLive! the Games will end with two free concerts in the adjacent Snow King baseball diamond. The Miller Sisters will open in the afternoon, followed by the nationally acclaimed Boom Chick starting at 7.
So mark off your calendar for July 7th. We’ll see you all at the base of Snow King!
