Margot Watters is in the spotlight this week. A new member to the team, Margot brings some serious Triathlon chops to our already diverse crew. She recently finished 5th in her age group at the intensely challenging Ironman in St. George, Utah. This weekend she is off to Boise to race in the Boise 70.3 Ironman. Before she left she spilled the beans on her favorite Eminem song, the ride up to Grand Targhee Resort, and burgers, fries and BEER!
SH: Why did you join the Fitzgerald’s Bicycles Team?
MW: I am a new member of the Fitzy Team. I wanted to meet more people in the community with similar interests and who are involved in the community. I usually do most of my training by myself, so it is a nice change to have the opportunity to ride with other people.
SH: What kind of riding do you do?
MW: I mostly road bike. This winter I got into snow biking. My kids are into mountain biking, so I have ordered a bike from the shop and hope to do a little of that this summer.
SH: What’s your favorite ride?
MW: My favorite road ride is starting from my house and riding to Targhee. I like the variety of terrain and it is my go-to ride when I need a quick ride.
SH: Tell me about your race in St. George.
MW: Recently I raced the Ironman in St. George, Utah. It was the most challenging Ironman to date. The winds proved to be an enormous challenge on an already difficult course. 30% of the racers did not finish, so I was very happy with my 5th place finish in my age group.
SH: What’s next?
MW: The Boise 70.3 Ironman. This is my favorite race. My daugther, Annie, is doing this race with me.
SH: Why triathlons?
MW: I enjoy Tri’s because of the variety of training. I started as a runner and have grown to love biking and swimming.
SH: What song gets stuck in your head on long rides?
MW: I listen a variety of music in training, but “Not Afraid” by Eminem is always a motivator.
SH: What note do you put on your stem?
MW: For races I tape my mantra on my bike: ”Do what is required.”
SH: What’s your favorite post ride treat?
MW: A Greasy Burger, fries and a beer!
SH: What is your favorite purchase so far from Fitzgerald’s?
MW: My morning Joe. It is made with such loving care!
