13th Annual Run & Ride
Anna Finishing the Run Section of 2012 Run & Ride
This past Sunday, Scott and I helped out with the 13th Annual Run & Ride in Wilson. Fitzgerald’s has sponsored this event for a few years now, but the real drivers of the event are Jeff Crabtree and Phil Leeds of Skinny Skis and Kate McLaren of Kate McLaren Sports Massage. The event raises money for the Cancer Patient Support Fund at St. John’s Medical Center Foundation.
This year we saw 141 competitive racers, plus lots of walkers, runners and cyclists for the non-timed fun race and lots of kids. The weather was perfect - sunny and warm. In addition to the main race, there were two kid’s races: a kick bike/training wheel race for the little tykes and a longer run & ride for the older kids. The competition for the kid’s races was just as intense as for the adults - although I didn’t see any aero helmets on the kids….
Ok - here comes the shameless plug for the Fitzgerald’s Bicycles Team. We took two podium places overall.
- Anna-Lisette Davis and Dan Abraham took first in the mixed team race with a blazing time of 45:38 finishing over two minutes faster than their nearest competitors. Anna ran a very fast 5 k and Dan had a great bike leg thanks, in small part, to his aero helmet and skin suit.
- And in the uber competitive men’s individual race, Dave Bergart came in 3rd despite his girlfriend Katie’s prediction that he would win and my spewing that prediction all over the internet. Perhaps we could convince Dave not ride over the pass as his warm up for next year. Dave had some very tough competition in Doug Cook and Brent Peacock. Amazingly enough the two top men’s individual racers beat everyone else including the team racers - that’s just how fast Doug and Brent were.
- Finally, Margot Watters finished 5th in the women’s individual race with a solid time. This was especially impressive because Margot is racing this weekend in the Boise Half-Ironman and her coach told her to do a solid run and then take it easy on the bike. We’ll see more about Margot at the end of this week!
Don’t worry, I’ve posted up the race results - here they are: Race Results
