It’s been 10 years since the League of American Bicyclists began gathering bicycle advocates to descend on Washington DC in an effort to raise the volume on the voice of cycling. By the look s of this year’s summit, it’s working! Unfortunately Jannine and I had to pass on this year’s summit, but we did have great local representation from both Friend’s of Pathways and Teton Valley Trails and Pathways. The two biggest announcements at the summit came from Google and the US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Google rolled out a huge announcement that Google Maps for Bikes is now live! Now anyone can plan out their cycling vacation, commute, or errand running mission here:

Another great sign that the tide of Cycling is on the rise like never before!
Secretary Hood announced “You have a full partner in Ray LaHood.” While he released his new Policy Statement on Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodation Regulations and Recommendations. LaHood then made the most substantial statement the DOT has ever made about bicycling and announced, “a sea change. People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.” Unbelievable! Did he really say that?
