Scott Foil: Road Aero Redefined

While most makers of carbon bike fames have been building super-light and super-stiff frame sets in recent years, not many have taken up the challenge to create a road frame that is also more aerodynamic. Scott’s FOIL was one of the first to combine all three. And Fitzgerald’s has them on sale for $2700. Check out the Scott Bikes online.

By now you’ve seen these in the pro peloton, first under the Team Highroad riders (including Mark Cavendish who helped in the design process, and now under the Orica-Greenedge riders), and likely read a review or two. And while the frameset design itself has been extended across a variety of price points by Scott, the growing number of “aero” road frames from other manufacturers only adds credibility to what Scott was doing two years ago, when they launched the FOIL as an aero shaped road frame that was both very light, and very stiff.

Team Spotlight: Wes Hamilton

Fitzgerald’s Bicycles Team Member Wes Hamilton just completed the first half of his season racing lots of crits. While he took a breather before launching into the rest of his race season, Wes took a few minutes to talk about hot laps on Victor’s cross course, how he got hooked on the Scott Addict CX and why the joker keeps him going:

SKH: When did you join the team?

WH: This is my first year with the team. I rode a bit with the team last year during the cross season, but this is my first official year.

SKH: Why did you join Fitzgerald’s Team?

WH: I got to know the team mainly from their support at the cross races. It didn’t seem to really matter if you were tearing it up, or brand new to the sport, they gave mad props to everyone. I made a decision then and there that if the opportunity came up, that was the only team I wanted to ride with. Everyone, regardless of their level, is supported by this team and that is the vibe that keeps us all going. (more…)

Fitzy’s Targhee Super D Pre-Race Scouting Report

New to the Wydaho Rendezvous Mountain Bike Festival this year is the Targhee Super D Race scheduled for Sunday, July 29th. With 12.5 miles and 4700 vertical feet, the Super D Race is certain to be a favorite event for Wydaho for years to come. Fitzy took to the course one Saturday this summer to scout out all the lines, get the down low on bike and tire selection and have a bit of fun. Andy at Grand Targhee and Dana Ramos posted up a Google Map with the entire course.

Scott swears he shared all of his impressions and given his best advice, but I guess we will all just have to race the Super D to find out ourselves if he held anything back for himself. Here’s his pre-race ride report: (more…)

Outerlocal Summer Games Update!

This Just in from the OUTERLOCAL SUMMER GAMES:

• We’ve extended registration (and pre-registration prices of just $25 for one or more legs, or $50 for teams) until today at 3 p.m. Just go click here to register.
• Registration is available today from 4-8 P.M. at the Snow King Lodge Room, Snow King Center. Day-of registration costs apply: $30 per leg for individuals, $100 for teams.
• Day-of registration will also be available from 7-9 a.m. at the Phil Baux Park picnic shelter. Day-of registration costs are $30 per leg for individuals, $100 for teams.
• Participants can enter one or all events, for fun or competition, as an individual or as part of a team, in pro, rec, or masters (50+) classes.

Team Spotlight: Anna-Lisette Davis

Anna finishes her running leg during the 2012 Run & Ride

Fitzgerald’s Bicycles Team Member Anna-Lisette Davis just completed the Lumberjack 100 in Michigan coming in 16th on her first 100 mile mountain bike ride (not to mention mountain bike race). She also took first place in this June’s Run & Ride in the mixed race division with fellow team member and now husband Dan Abraham. Anna shared why bike fittings rock, singing during races, Affagatos at the Nine Bar and her race report.
