SKH: When did you join the Fitzgerald’s cycling team and why?
MD: This is my second year on the team. I particularly like the social aspect. Meeting new friends with similar interests and giving and getting moral support is important to me. It’s nice to know I’m not alone out there.

SKH: What kind of riding do you do?
MD: I dabble in all sorts of riding, everything from road biking to cyclocross to snow biking and cruiser riding. I mainly race my time trails bike, though for triathlon.
SKH: Tell me about the Boise 70.3? I heard the weather was awful.
MD: Heinous conditions and a shortened bike leg. But I went there to race so I lined up and did my thing. I had an awful crash last year when another rider took me down and out of the race. This year I didn’t crash so that was a bonus. My new long-sleeved Fitzy jersey kept me warm too.
SKH: What’s next on your race schedule?
MD: I have a couple of triathlons, bike races and running races lined up culminating in my big race of the year, the 70.3 Ironman World Championships on September 9th in Las Vegas.
SKH: What’s your mantra?
MD: Put your big girl panties on & deal with it!
SKH: What song gets stuck in your head?
MD: ”Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash…”I fell into a burning ring of fire. I went down, down, down and the flames went higher…”
SKH: Any superstitions?
MD: Not really. I’m working on not being a complete junk show before a race.
SKH: What’s your favorite post ride treat?
MD: A huge burger from the Brakeman….and ice cream, but not together, of course.
SKH: What have you purchased from Fitzgerald’s that you can’t ride without?
MD: Lots of CarboRocket!
Melissa, you rock hard!!
Great Team Spotlight this week! Johnny Cash, Burgers, & Carb o Rocket in the same post. Love it!
