Orbea Enters the US Trail Bike Market with a bang!

Introducing the Orbea Rallon.

Until now, the technologies used for designing full-suspension bicycles were based on flat kinematics analysis. Advanced Dynamics is the result of a long process of joint research work with the CEIT (Guipuzcoa Studies and Technical Research Center), using computer-based, virtual modelling and simulation programs to study the performance of dual suspension bikes. Using this virtual analysis system, Orbea and CEIT were able to take into account all variables affecting a full suspension bicycle’s performance, giving rise to the four cornerstones of Orbea’s Advanced Dynamics technology: the bike’s dynamic suspension platform, perfect use of its suspension travel, its customized damper and its sealed bearings. In other words, here’s the new RALLON from Orbea…

rallonDYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION OF THE SUSPENSION

Through the creation of Advanced Dynamics, the Orbea Rallon has mastered suspension system performance involving the interaction of different suspension systems and dampers. This has enabled us to create the best adapted ratio curve on the market: the Lambda Curve, which combines the lightweight benefits of an air-sprung shock with the linearity of a coil-spring shock. This is accomplished through the development of the Lamda Link, a specifically designed and specifically placed link, which manipulates the leverage ratio to make full use of the suspension’s travel to obtain a smooth, uninterrupted 150 millimeters of travel, with three major characteristics:
· High sensitivity to minor impacts: Due to a low leverage ratio curve and the compliancy of the shock’s damper, the suspension is plush and active at the beginning of the stroke, whether climbing or descending
· Linearity on medium impacts: The regressive ratio curve and the damper performance together provide linear performance for medium impact
· Compliance on heavy impacts: The final ascending section of the ratio curve compensates for the excessive progression of the air shock damper to achieve complete use of the shock stroke

Pathway Sweeping Update from Pathways Coordinator Brian Schilling

All,
Here’s the latest from the Parks and Rec crew on their spring cleaning. I’ll try to keep the reports flowing as we get the system cleared and swept.

In summary, it looks like:
Indian Trails: cleared last week (pre-3/13)
South Park Loop Road: 1st pass (still compacted snow from winter grooming)
Garaman: Dry from post office to park (see Beau’s email below). Other sections are partially covered.
3 Creek: 1st pass, may be clear
Paul Merritt (Smith’s to Melody): clear, but lots of gravel
Moose-Wilson: not started, but section from C-V south is probably mostly clear.
Centennial: not started
Millennium (Teton Pass): not started

Feedback is always encouraged and welcome.
Thanks,
Brian

email from Beau:
Ok, so Garaman is dry from the new post office to the park. Except for the flooding behind the Flat Creek Condos. The actual park where the restroom is will take longer, there is still about a foot of ice to go through, hopefully I will be done tomorrow with that section. We also started on three creeks today, pretty easy going there.

Jay and Tracey Make it Nome sweet Nome!

There is not much to say except WOW! Ok, maybe Holy S*#T!!! An incredible journey has come to an end for our friends and teammates. Stayed tuned for details on a much deserved welcome home party…

Jay & Tracey near the finish line. Start your cheering!

I Had to share this email I got from Top Shelf rider Mike Piker. I think it really sums it all up…

Hey Everyone,
I had to email about my friends Jay and Tracey Petervary. They are nearing the finish of the 1100 mile self-supported snow-bike race across the Alaskan Wilderness. The course is the same used by the sled dogs during the Iditarod. Tracey has already set the female course record for the race to Mcgrath (350 miles) and is on pace to set a new female record to Nome by several days. Jay finished third overall to Mcgrath and has been traveling with Tracey to Nome. They have endured everything from warm temps and soft trails to frightening cold temps between 40 and 45 below zero on the trail. At one point they both had to run for hours with their bike to keep their extremities from freezing. Let that sink in for a moment… Most folks have never experienced anything colder than 20 or 30 below and if so did it from the comfort of a living room. The last couple days they have been riding along the Bering Sea crossing sections of sea Ice. Based on Tracey’s call in, they rode almost 24 hours straight to get to White Mountain, the last stop before Nome. They have been treated well by the villages and have even established a celebrity status. The children have been greeting them as they come into the villages and asking for autographs. Hey JP/TP will you sign my team kit when you get home???

Of all the endurance events I know of, none come close to the mental and physical challenges of the Iditarod. To say I am proud of them is a huge understatement. If you get a minute and want to track their final miles or hear a call-in go to this link:

Take care,
Michael Piker

10th Annual National Bike Summit a Huge Success Once Again!

It’s been 10 years since the League of American Bicyclists began gathering bicycle advocates to descend on Washington DC in an effort to raise the volume on the voice of cycling. By the look s of this year’s summit, it’s working! Unfortunately Jannine and I had to pass on this year’s summit, but we did have great local representation from both Friend’s of Pathways and Teton Valley Trails and Pathways. The two biggest announcements at the summit came from Google and the US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

Google rolled out a huge announcement that Google Maps for Bikes is now live! Now anyone can plan out their cycling vacation, commute, or errand running mission here:
http://googlemapsbikethere.org/
Another great sign that the tide of Cycling is on the rise like never before!

Secretary Hood announced “You have a full partner in Ray LaHood.” While he released his new Policy Statement on Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodation Regulations and Recommendations. LaHood then made the most substantial statement the DOT has ever made about bicycling and announced, “a sea change. People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.” Unbelievable! Did he really say that?
