Brian left Jackson earlier this winter to pedal across the southern part of the US from West to East on his Jamis Coda. I asked him to stay in touch, and he has been! Check out his first installment below. I’ll keep you updated as I receive news form Brian.

hey all, this is brian and i just finished my 9th day on the road and everything is all good. i got to san diego on friday with no problems with the bus and stayed in downtown san diego at a hostel. the city riding is awesome, and the city is awesome as well, beautiful. i started my first day late at around 11 after an all you can eat pancake breakfast and ended up getting lost after the first 2 miles. i started at ocean beach and somehow missed the first turn, just kept going. i finally found my way back on route at around 12. the rest of the day consisted of a low grade climb until later in the day when i started climbing out of san diego and into the mountains. it was rough but i ended up getting 50 miles in even after the late start. the second day consisted of more climbing but awesome views. this was the start of the head/crosswinds, gusts of up to 30 miles an hour. the 3rd day was all wind again but it was easy riding through the yuha desert. i ended up camping at a high school baseball field which i seem to find myself at alot, free and in town. the 4th day was through the sand dunes and i stayed at glamis with two guys who made me dinner and breakfast, also a place to sleep. it was sweet. the 5th day was average riding with the winds again but i managed decent mileage. after that day it has been pretty good riding besides the winds which have been a bother 6 out of the 9 days but whatever, all is still good and i have been enjoying pretty much all of it. its been in the 20s at night but i have been staying warm and soon i will be out of the high desert and into the low desert of central Texas. i have done some pretty decent size days the last 2 days, both of 100 miles and my third century today. i am starting to feel it in my knees after i am done riding but while i am riding everything is fine. tonight i am staying at New Mexico state college with some students and they are making me dinner and giving me a place to sleep. this is the third time i had people allow me to stay at their place and cook me dinner. tomorrow i am off to el paso figuring i will take it easy tomorrow. thank you fitzy’s, my bike has been perfect and i hope you enjoyed the beers. enclosure i hope the snow is still falling and you are getting some epic days up in the tetons, and all at the pines, i will see you in spring.
