my first trek bike was the 4300 really happy about it always wanted to own a trek bike since day one but it got stolen after having it for 3 years with close to 5000 km on it . this is my second trek bike so far I'm happy with the Excalibur with it's 29er wheels looking forward to hit the road and trails more often.

I visited the Macomb AC&F; (Trek store) a month before my purchase and a local bike store closer to me. I rode the Giant Revel (from the local bike store) and the Trek X-Caliber 4 29er. To be honest both bikes were very nice. Granted the test rides were short so it's hard to split hairs between the two bikes. I did my research and I came back to the Trek store because I felt I was able to get a better deal and the staff recognized me from my first visit. I have to admit the X-Caliber was more expensive but a slight upgrade and it was 2014 vs. 2012 or 2013. Either bike would be a big upgrade from my 1987 or so department store bike. The X-Caliber has a nice smooth ride, nice shifting and very light. The Viper red reminds me of a Dodge Viper or some cool sports car.The disc brakes are a nice touch. I'll be using this primarily on a bike path and maybe a beginner dirt trail. If you're a newbie(shopping for a premium bicycle) like me wanting to get back into riding a bike, I highly recommend American Cycle and Fitness-Lakeside or any Trek bicycle dealership.They answered all my questions/concerns and to me that was the deal breaker.

I got this bike to replace a bike that had gotten stolen from me a week earlier. I was looking for something with disc breaks at the very least and saw this bike at my lbs on sale for 499.99, so I said why not after I heard about its warranty as well. For the price I think its great, and any upgrades I make I'll eventually put on a future frame once I've saved up.

This is a great bike for the price. I looked around for a 29er but didn't have much to spend and luckily I found this one. it is better then I expected and defiantly would recommend this bike to anyone.
