Thule DoubleTrack 2-Bike Hitch Rack

Thule's DoubleTrack 2-Bike Hitch Rack is a great way to carry 2 bikes and it handles just about any bike frame type, wheel size, and suspension design. Bikes are held in place by the independently adjustable wheel holders (wheelbases up to 48 inches) and the ratcheting hooks that quickly adjust and secure the bikes by the top tubes. There are also integrated bike locks, and Thule's Snug-Tite receiver lock that secures the rack to your vehicle. This great rack folds for storage, too.

              Comments:

I was somewhat disapointed with this rack over the T2. It does not fold down like the T2 for rear door access. The rack only comes as a 1.25 inch bar with a 2 inch adapter into the hitch. I would prefer less pieces (more stable)since I will never own a 1.25 inch class II hitch. They moved both ratcheting hold downs onto the same bar, I preferred the 2 separate ratcheting hold downs like the T2 has (easier if both bikes have similar frame geometry). I also preferred the look of the gray aluminum rails of the thinner black rails they use now on the dual track. Seems like all they would have had to do is to weld the ratcheting hold-downs near the center versus near the tires. Not sure why they re-designed the entire system, I think it looked (and functioned)in many ways better before. The part where it attaches to the vehicle does not look that good now with all the different size pieces welded together, way more complicated than necessary.

              Comments:

This is a well made rack and good for the price. It has many of the same features of the T2, but it doesn't tilt down like T2 for access to hatchback when bikes are on the rack. You can use it with bikes with front fenders (T2 can't be used on bikes with fenders). I suppose it could scratch a bike's cross bar, but it hasn't scratched mine yet. This is a supposed advantage of T2 (it doesn't touch your bike frame). You might have to get an adapter to securely attach a bike that didn't have a horizontal top bar (like a step through frame bike). I'm not sure about that last one as I only have horizontal bar bikes. It is lighter than the Thule T2 and easier to lift onto the car to attach it. Overall a nice rack for the price. Well built.

This unit folds away easily from the back lift gate, for easy entry into the SUV.
