Surly's Disc Trucker sets the bar high as an endlessly capable world-tourer, grocery-getter, and weekend-camper. Chromoly has long been the favored frame material for bicycle tourists, and the Trucker's frame and fork are stable and smooth under load, guaranteeing long-distance riding pleasure and performance. A complete set of front and rear rack eyelets, fender mounts, and clearance for high volume tires means you can truly ride this bike to the ends of the earth, and bring your gear along for the ride. Bar-end shifters are simple and durable, and the extra-wide range 27-speed drivetrain will get you and your bike up every hill. Mechanical disc brakes offer tons of all-condition stopping power on your journeys. Sturdy 700c wheels with 37mm-wide Continental tires are great for long-distance trekking, and a pair of Avid mechanical disc brakes provide incredible all-weather stopping power.

Comments:
I use my Disc Trucker to get to work and back which is a 7 mile round trip six days per week. I also use it for all of my grocery shopping and other errands. It is just such a nice smooth ride and great for riding in congested traffic in any weather due to its more precise disc brakes ( which are also a lot more whether resistant). I can feel the difference in the rain. The bar-end shifters make shifting such a breeze and are so smooth. The 27 gears are great for any hill and they go high enough so that I do not find myself running out of gears when I need to go faster due to being late to work (which happens too often). I also must mention that two weeks after I bought this bike I was cut off by a car and slammed pretty hard into the side of it. The front fork was bent back two inches or so and the head tube was slightly bent but unable to be repaired. Surly provided the new frame and fork at a crash discount after my LBS explained to them my hit-and-run situation. 'Twas very cool of them. They earned more business from me. I will definitely be buying my racks from Surly now (they were on my short list anyway, but this made it easier to decide)
