1800 miles and climbing
Pros:
Comfort, Versatile, Durable
Cons:
Best Uses:
Commuting/City, Road Biking, Touring
This Trek was purchased at the end of Jan 2015. I currently have over 1800 miles. I have changed two components in the last two months. Out is the standard handlebar for a touring handlebar and twist shift has been replaced by index thumb shifting. My main goal has been to add weight to this bike in order to buyild my endurance for touring in 2016. As seen in the attached pic, I have front and rear racks and bags. Total training weight bike/bags is between 60 and 79 lbs and climbing. I have been working many hills and the gearing on this is excellent. This is the bike I am using to dial in my comfort measurements for my next purchase of a Trek 520 disc in early 2016. TREK, you are more than welcome to donate that bike to me should you feel the urge to flex your corporate muscles :-) This my second Trek since 2004 and I have no intent on changing now. BTW, this pic was from the Old Kentucky Home Tour 2015, Louisville, KY, 72 miles Sat and 55 Sun with MANY hills. Based upon the bikes attending (600 plus riders) I was the only one with over 60 lbs of bike and gear. Verve 2 rocks!

Wonderful bike! Growing up, I loved riding. I've been out of it for decades but decided to take it up again--for recreation and exercise. At my local bike shop I tested the Trek 7.2 FX and the Verve 2 and chose the Verve because it was more comfortable (suspension fork and wider seat). I've got it decked on now with mirror, bell, trip computer, lighting system, etc., and have mainly been taking it on 8-20 mile rides on local paved bike trails--with an occasional gravel path. It's a joy to ride--so smooth and quiet and the shifting is perfect. I recommend if you do much work on gravel that you consider something with wider wheels. This bike is great for smooth dirt paths, but gets a little unstable on big gravel. Overall a great bike!

Disappointing
Pros:
Cons:
Poor Construction, Gearing Brakes For Aged
Best Uses:
This bike has a front brake so squishy and unresponsive that the brake pulls down all the way to the grip. Mechanic at store that sold it to me can't make it more responsive. The gearing is so gentle that you cannot get any leverage when pedaling on even a modest downhill incline - you are riding a boat not a bike if you are on a flat or downhill grade. Not easy to get that changed. This bike seems to be designed for octogenarians - particularly those who don't care much about quality.

A good on road and some off road riding, but not like a true mountain bike. Riding the back roads and streets, this is the perfect bike. A lot of gears (21) to make the ride easy. The upright position and larger seat makes a more comfortable ride. If your looking for speed, this may not be the right bike, but for the casual rider, I can't think of a better bike.

I love this bike! It fits me well because I'm a very tall lady. I got the 22.5 size.I purchased the men's bike and it's no problem getting on or off it. Plus it fits on my car's bike rack without me having to use the adapter like on my old women's bike. I love how this bike is so light and fast compared to my old "tank" of a bike. Trek Verve 2 is a great bike for people who want to enjoy a nice bike ride. It doesn't do the extreme terrain of a mountain bike or give the speed and distance riding of a road bike, but if your in between these needs, you will be impressed with this bike. It has the geometry that allows for comfortable and upright riding posture that won't stress your neck, shoulders and wrists.

Nice Bike - Nice Price
Pros:
High Quality Finish, Lightweight
Cons:
Shift Feel
Best Uses:
Commuting/City
I bought the Verve 2 to replace an older mountain bike that was no longer appropriate for me and how I ride now (I'm 67). The upright riding position is s huge improvement in comfort for me - no more sore neck and wrists from the racing frame mountain bike. I don't have a lot of accumulated mileage yet, so I will probably discover more likes/dislikes as I get more familiar with it. At this point, the only comment I can make is that the twist-grip shifters feel less precise than the lever type on my old bike. It shifts okay, but the feel of the shifter is a little heavy with "vague" detents. Overall, however, I like the bike a lot and feel that it's a good value for the money - I'm happy.

Being on the north side of 65 my doctor advised more exercise to stem the increase in weight since retirement. I don't care for mall walking and jogging kills the knees. I decided to do the bike riding thing. WOW was I surprized at how much fun exercise could be. The Vere 2 fit my needs perfectly. It handles great, shifts are both quick and smooth. My rides are a combination of paved roads and gravel tracks and I have had no problems in negotiating them on the Vere's stock tires. I look forward to my rides every day and hope to keep rideing for years to come.

After deciding to start riding again after several years to get back into shape, I pulled my old " big box store" mountain bike out. At 52 I quickly decided this wasn't the bike for me. I did some research and went to the local Trek dealer. I explained what I was looking for in a bike and he pointed me to the Verve. He was right on the money. This bike is well built, good looking, very comfortable, fit my budget and is just plain fun to ride. I now ride about 8 miles every day.

I ride my Trek almost everyday after coming home from work for fun and exercise. I often ride with my girlfriend who bought the bike for me because she already had a Trek Pure and she felt it would be fun for us to ride together, she was right.
The only thing I can find that isnt perfect about my Verve 2 is the front sprocket change is a bit clunky and not as precise as the rear gear changes, but not enough to be a problem. I call my Trek the Grey Ghost because of its color and its quiet operation.

I had stopped riding bicycles for almost 18 years and decided that it would be a good idea to start over again. A friend had said that TREK were very good bike and I should have a look at it. Solid bike
Pros:
Easy to adjust, Durable, Stable
Cons:
Shocks Don't Lockout, Heavy
Best Uses:
Commuting/City, Commutingcity
I've had this bike for about a year, and use it daily as my commuting bike for a 16 mile round trip commute in Washington DC. I also use it for 30-50 mile rides on the weekends.
The pros: This is a very comfortable bike with a smooth ride. Accessories mount easily--I have a back rack, rear and front lights, water bottle holder, kickstand and a small front bag attached to mine. The bike is easy to handle and maneuver, and is stable--a big plus in city traffic. The tires are also good in rainy weather, and are durable. There's also a wide range of gears, which helps for hills. The suspension fork also allows for some fun riding off of the pavement that a road bike couldn't handle, such as crushed limestone or dirt trails.
The cons: This bike is heavy and slow (my road biking friend called it a "tank"). Don't expect to average much above 13-14 MPH, even on an empty trail. This is partly because the upright position of this bike makes you a giant wind balloon, and also due to the weight of the bike. The shocks do not have a lockout feature, which can make hilly city riding less enjoyable, even with the wide range of gears.
Overall I like this bike for commuting and weekend rides, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who likes to ride fast.

I bought this bike as a companion to my Trek Pilot 5.2 carbon frame road bike which I absolutely love. Sometimes, though, I ride in/on areas/surfaces not really suitable for a road bike like my Pilot. I decided to buy the Verve 2 WSD because it is very lightweight, and came in a 19" frame which is difficult to find in a ladies' frame. I am 5'10" and like a large bike. My Pilot 5.2 is a 57 cm. frame and while great for long rides on the road, this bike jumps curbs when necessary and rides over grass and wooden bridges with ease. The front fork shocks along with the seat post suspension, makes for a very solid, comfortable ride on any surface.

Best Uses:
Local Riding
I am absolutely thrilled with the new Verve 2 I bought in November 2012 from my LBS. I haven't ridden bikes much in many years, so currently I'm only able to ride short distances locally with my Verve 2. But it is so enjoyable to ride that I find myself taking it out often when the weather is nice, sometimes two or three times during the day.The construction, finish, and operation of all components of the Verve 2 are superb. Shifting is easy and precise, braking is excellent, handling is excellent even at the slowest speeds, and it is the easiest pedaling and best coasting bike I have ever had. There are user adjustments that allow the fine tuning of almost everything on the bike. As it sat on the bike shop floor, my Verve 2 was set up so well by the dealer that no adjustments were needed before buying it. I replaced the saddle that comes on the Verve 2 with a Bontrager SSR WSD saddle. It is much more comfortable for me, and the black color with silver lettering matches the Verve 2's graphite and black colors really well.If you're looking for a top quality hybrid, check out the Trek Verve 2, you might end up taking one home, I did.

Great ride for a Return Rider
Pros:
Great looks, Comfortable ride, Smooth shifting, A good fit
Cons:
Best Uses:
Paved trails, Local Neighborhood Street
Having not ridden a bicycle for many years, the Verve 2 provided me with an excellent re-entry to cycle riding. Under my doctors orders to begin an exercise program, I thought riding a bicycle would be the best way to accomplish my exercise goals and enjoy the scenery on the Jersey Shore. This bike is fun to ride, easy to handle, and a real value. If you are looking for a well made bike with excellent components and classic good looks, give this bike a try. You won't be disappointed. The folks at Toms Atlantic Cyclery were experienced cyclists, who took the time to make sure the bike was sized properly for my body type. I highly reccomend Toms as well as the Verve 2.
