Good bike with some flaws

Pros:
Stable, Highly Adjustable
Cons:
Hard To Change Gears, Horrible Fork
Best Uses:
Street Riding, Light Trails
Bike is solid but the fork doesn't move even the 35mm for me as a 190lb man. Additionally, twisting to change gears is very difficult for my 6 year old.

Shifting problems

Pros:
Easy to Grow Into, Highly Adjustable, Built to Last
Cons:
Best Uses:
Light Trails, Street Riding
Bought this as an upgrade from a Sports A 145 inch bike my daughter was using to start off on. We ride with a group and just the two of us several times a month and I have been teaching basic shifting skills, climbing and descent skills and trail navigation. The major problem with this bike is the difficulty of shifting the twist shifter, especially with her six year old strength. I contacted Trek about this and they basically said there is nothing that can be done about it. Not happy with that and not happy with my own efforts, I took it to the dealer and he did some adjustment and further lubing of the cable. It was still very stiff, but better than before. She is almost 7 now and she can shift a little better, although she tends to lose her balance at times due to the effort. Not really a design for small kids to learn on. We also rode the other day on a 24" Sp---zed with 7-speed twist grip. Absolutely no problem for her even though the systems seem to be quite similar. Otherwise the bike has been good for her and her skills have inmproved. Watching her ace some nice trails with the bigger bike is leading me to perhaps purchase either a MT220 or a Sp---zed, but the discussion of poor parts from China above is scarng me off a bit even though I have been a loyal Trek fan for over 15 years.

Braden: I love it!

Pros:
I Like The Grips, It's Really Fast, Chain Doesn't Pop, It's Easy To Turn, It's Easy To Pedal, It's A Mountain Bike
Cons:
No There's Nothing
Best Uses:
Street Riding, Light Trails, Awesome Second Bike, Awesome Second Bike That
Performance feels awesome for a little guy graduating from a first bike. He says it turns fast and is easy to pedal and he learned to shift gears in the first month. Works great on the road and the easy off road conditions we have. He started on this bike at 6, and I think it will last him a few years. Before that his brother will have it and it's built solid enough to last for both of them and then pass on.

mt60

Pros:
Built to Last, Stable, Highly Adjustable
Cons:
Tires Not Very Aggressive, Sticky Fork, Brakes Need Lighter Pull
Best Uses:
Mt Riding
I just bought this for my 5 yr old. He was just big enough to fit it, so we upgraded from his jet 16. We ride in the mountains on beginner to intermediate trails atleast 4 times a week. He is doing awesome and I see his skills progressing every time we go out. My only complaints about this bike are 1.) Wish the front fork had smoother action. It sticks a lot and doesn't function smoothly. 2.) The brakes are stiff and difficult for him to hold on longer decents. 3.) The tires have little to no grip on actual mt. trails. The tires and grips were upgraded right away, new brakes are on the way and the fork will be upgraded in the Nxt week or so. After those few things I think this will be the perfect setup for my lil ripper. In future models would love to see the xct fork from factory instead of the 2025.

First multi-speed bike

Pros:
Good for small boy, Easy to Grow Into, Stable, Highly Adjustable, Built to Last
Cons:
Best Uses:
Street Riding, Light Trails, First Learning
Smallest 7 y.o. in his class - had to adjust everything to fit - first attempt unsuccessful - after an afternoon of riding together, he is now confident with shifting, working on handbrake skills - he goes a lot faster than on his toy store bike, and he loves it - worth the money. Should last us for several years .

GREAT BIKE FOR LITTLE KIDS

Pros:
Easy to Grow Into, Smooth Ride, Stable, Built to Last, Highly Adjustable, Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Light Trails
I was looking for a light 20" for my 9 yr old daughter who is small. She also needed gears to make it up some hills. I was very impressed with the quality of the bike and it is light. I only rated it 4 stars b/c I was looking for disc brakes and the front forks are heavy. Overall she and I are totally happy with the bike. Look forward to many years of family trail riding together.
