Features & Info

Trek's impressive Domane

Trek's Domane is a game-changer. It's a high-performance race machine that's also comfortable enough for even your longest rides and roughest roads. Here are some highlights:
The Domane IsoSpeed fork. The Domane E2 front end. The Domane 3S chain-keeper.
The IsoSpeed fork's rake (offset) has been increased to optimize handling and lengthen the wheelbase for greater compliance over even harsh terrain. It's already been proven with wins in races over the toughest cobbles in Europe.
The E2 head tube tapers from 1 1/2 to 1-1/8 inch and is wider side to side than front to back. This minimizes weight, maximizes power transfer and improves cornering. Result: a more powerful and confident ride. The 3S chain-keeper is integrated directly into the frame. It's an elegant solution that prevents the chain coming off on rough roads and under hard shifts. It lets you make any shift you want at any time without worrying.

BB90 bottom bracket

Trek's BB90.
Trek's Domane features a unique bottom bracket that's 90mm wide (traditional ones are 68mm wide). This wide bottom bracket lets Trek build the frame with larger tubes for increased power transfer. Plus, the BB90 is machined so that the bearings can be placed directly into the frame saving weight due to fewer parts, ensuring additional pedaling efficiency and simplifying maintenance and repair.

E2 Head Tube

Tapered head tube and fork. For increased stiffness and improved steering precision, tapered head tubes (see image, on left) and forks pair an oversize lower steerer tube (usually 1 1/2-inch, see image, on right) with a standard diameter upper steerer tube (usually 1 1/8-inch). This combination sheds weight compared to straight 1 1/2-inch systems, and adds stability and stiffness when compared to straight 1 1/8-inch systems. The result is a bike that tracks better through corners while allowing for the use of standard stems.

Fantastic!

Pros:
Smart, Responsive, Handles Well, Lightweight, Good Geometry, Fast, Comfortable
Cons:
Best Uses:
Exercising
I am 60 years old and relatively new to this type of bike as I had a mountain bike for years and decided to change. I am really happy with my bike as I thought it wouldn't be that much different than my other bike. But it is so comfortable for a bike with a racing saddle and very much faster. The gears are splendid, even though I have taken some time to get used to them. Overall I am very pleased with my Trek!

Disappointed

Pros:
Gears, Brakes
Cons:
Uncomfortable Seat, Heavy
Best Uses:
Exercising
I use my bike for keeping fit, and training for sportives up to about 100 miles. After 18 months of use on my aluminium frame/carbon fork/Sora bike I thought it was time to upgrade and, after a test ride, thought this would do the job. 120 miles in and I can honestly say that, if I'd got to try it for that long before buying it, I would have given it back. The brakes and gears are better than my other bike (which was 1/3 of the price of this one) but I don't find the saddle very comfortable, and I don't find anything else about the bike to be particulary outstanding, especially the weight which isn't significantly different to the other bike despite being carbon framed vs aluminium. As far as quality is concerned, it's hard to say. Within the 1st 100 miles I had a very loose spoke, i.e. able to tighten it easily with my fingers, but I guess you can't really blame Trek for that. Maybe I was expecting too much; I thought I'd be thinking "wow, this is great" every time I go out on it but that hasn't happened.

Blown Away

Pros:
Responsive, Fast, Comfortable, Handles Well, Lightweight, Good Geometry
Cons:
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, Exercising, Racing, Serious Training, Commuting, Climbing
I'm a Trek guy, my whole family has Trek bikes, when my son asked if he could have my 2100zr, who am I to so no. That gave me the opportunity to really get what I wanted. I have always dreamed of a Madone, but Michigan roads suck, they suck really bad, I decided the Domane was the smart choice. I was fitted and found I need a 54 frame, my 2100 is a 56, the fit is so comfortable, I Love it. Mind you, I only have 125 miles on it. Another thing- who needs electronic shifting with the gears on this- a slight touch is all it takes and it's there. Suffice it to say- I love my new bike!

Year-round Endurance/Value/Comfort Champ

Pros:
Comfortable, Fenders, Good Geometry, Value, Fast, Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, All Weather, Commuting, Racing, Exercising, Climbing, Serious Training
I have a couple hundred miles on my Domane 4.3 disc now; it's my first road bike in a long while. Living in the Pacific Northwest, rain is a reality nine months of the year. This is a perfect bike to slay the worst Northwest weather and hilly terrain without blowing a fortune. Having brakes move from the top of the wheel (calipers) to the hub (discs) creates a lot of room for Bontrager fenders with plenty of space between the tire and the fender, even with Bontrager AW3 28mm tires. Light and comfortable enough for long distance, and stable in the wet even when bombing 8-12% grades, this is a great one-bike year-round solution. Love the light carbon-fibre frame, Shimano 105s, and solid brakes.

I have had my 4.3 Disc for a week and have put in some serious miles. I can not fault this bike at all, it is responsive, quick, well made and very light! so light that in heavy wind it can be twitchy but I suppose all carbon bikes are! great work Trek you have converted me from another brand!

Learning to Ride the Streets

Pros:
Light, Smooth, Great bike, Comfortable
Cons:
Can't Ride Enough
Best Uses:
Road, Citycommute
I've had my bike for less than a week,(1st road bike in 30 Years) and have truly enjoyed the ride. The bike makes the rough roads a breeze to ride. It is my second Carbon Fiber bike(other is a MTB). Love the STI shifters, and the Disk Brakes grab and stop the bike quickly and affectivly. Looking foward to a lot more riding.
