Absolutely Love
Pros:
Great Components, Durable, Lightweight, Handles Well Off-road
Cons:
Best Uses:
Limestone, Off-Road, Commuting, Pavement
We always take a week long bike trip every year and cover apprx 250-300 miles. This year we did the Katy Trail and we didn't want to use our road bike (Madone 4.5)on the limestone path. My husband and I each bought this bike for this trip and added 28 tires. The IsoSpeed decoupler was fantastic. No back discomfort after each day's ride. I can't say enough good things about this bike. We're older, didn't mind spending a little more for comfort. Totally worth it!!!

Cons:

I commute to work on this and I take all over the place as well.Haven't had any experience off road with it yet but on the pavement its very smooth. My avg.MPH has increased by 2 and I don't get a sore tooshy until I've gone at least 20 miles.Handlebars are very comfy and the carbon fiber makes it feel like your riding a twig compared to an aluminum frame.I test rode the 7.5 as well and its a night and day difference with the shifting, weight and components.I recommend spending the extra cash, you wont be disappointed.

Trek 7.7 FX is a joy to ride, so light & fast, kind of like driving a Porsche sports car, just fun. I've owned a 7.5 FX for seven years (still do) which is a fine bike, but when I bought the 7.7 I was amazed at the incremental enjoyment. I ride mainly paved roads, but do 30-60 mile days on the crushed limestone KATY Trail and my 7.7 just glides like a dream.

I ride several days a week after work and started joining a 20 mile ride club on Wednesday's! I'm the only one riding a Hybrid, but I easily keep-up with the racer bikes. The 7.7 FX handles well on and off the road, but I try and keep it on the pavement!

I fell in love with the Trek 7.7 FX with just one look. The FX model is lite, sharp looking and best of all: handles well on the road. I haven't taken this bike off-road and don't think I will, but for 12 mile rides locally it's a lot of fun and a great tool to get me back into shape! I would definitely recommend this bike to a friend! It's worth every penny!

Feels Xhilarating
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Commuting, Pavement
I use the bike to exercise and to go sight seeing. As I rode I gained confidence and that confidence allowed me to really reap the benefits of the bike. It's very light and efficient so the work the rider puts in translates to speed on the road. Its easy to control but I would not use it off road. I just rode it for 4 hr+ and the seat was not uncomfortable until the end of the ride. What stands out is the speed(efficiency)

I use this bike bike to cycle 10-15miles everyday for recreational exercise and since getting it can't wait to get going in the morning, What a piece of kit, smooth and absolute quality. I have been cycling now for 5 years, am 49-50 years old and love quality items and get enjoyment from using them, whether it be cars, bikes etc. This bike has fantastic comfort for a full carbon frame with pretty much road bike spec', I was looking for a hybrid with full carbon frame and couldn't find one any in shop to trial within 30mls. I eventually tried a Specialised one of the only companies that do hybrid full carbon and Ive got to say the trek 7.7 leaves it for dead in ALL respects, comfort, quality not to mention price being a bonus......as you'll gather I just love this bike, which I do its my absolute favourite from my collection by far.........

I had previously purchased a road bike and never got comfortable on it, and seemed to gravitate to my mountain bike. I decided a flat bar bike would be a better fit for me, and my bike shop recommended this 7.7. it was a bit pricy for me, but after a test ride I bought it. I am glad I did. it is super comfortable and the carbon frame rides smooth. I think the 7.7 is a great buy.

Cons:

Best Uses:

So far, this bike has performed well. I have around 300 miles on it in different terrain. The bike is quick and agile, and is a speed demon on level terrain. The gearing system isn't the greatest for climbing at my skill level(there could be a couple of other lower end gear ratios that might work better) but is sufficient. A more advanced rider might not notice this. The components seem to be good quality and work well. Everything is smooth. I use this bike on a trainer as well, and it is smooth on the trainer. Overall, a good ride. My only complaint is the ease in which the bike will scratch.

Cons:

Best Uses:

Excellent handling climbing and descending. No clunky shifting with this super light bike. Has some ability to absorb minor road vibrations.
Great appearance, but "TREK" is written in black on a black back round, so the name is lost in the background.
I use this bike daily for 6-10 mile road rides and have registered 150 miles in last than a month.

Cons:
Best Uses:

This bike is great. Very responsive, light, good brakes. However, as I was riding yesterday and the gears were shifting smoothly, the rear derailler suddenly came off. I found a screw on the highway and it appears that the holding screw worked loose and allowed the derailler to come off. It scratched the spokes, the frame, and the derailler wound up bent. This was very dangerous. I'm lucky everything including me is ok.

I cannot say enough good things about this bike. Handling is great and it's 12 pounds lighter than my last Trek.
It's easy to carry up/down from the NYC subway and to/from my basement storage. Haven't had any issue with the puncture-resistant tires on NYC streets, either.
The only thing I didn't like was the seat (which I swapped out). I also wish there was a woman's version or that the top tube was a bit more angled.

Great bike. Durability is an issue.
Pros:
Lightweight, Handles Well
Cons:
Not Durable Enough
Best Uses:
Touring
I'm an experienced biker if not expert. Have ridden many different models over the years, this is my first all carbon bike. I commute 6 miles every day (3 miles downhill, 3 miles straight uphill) and do 30-60 mile rides on some weekends.
I have really enjoyed the feel and ride of this bike. It's so light and has some nice flex to it. I like components even an amateur like me can maintain and I picked this because I preferred caliper brakes.
So far in one year I have had to replace the front derailleur. In the last two days the left pedal started squeaking and then the left pedal fell off 2 minutes into a ride today. In case you are wondering I have put about 1500 miles on the bike in the first year.
I'd also like to warn you that the finish is easy to nick up. It was beautiful when I got it, within a year it has a bunch of scratches and dings. Carbon is far easier to mar up than aluminum or steel.
What I've learned is that in a grimy environment like Massachusetts (and probably, wherever you ride), this bike is going to need regular maintenance. It's a quality device that doesn't perform well with neglect.

Disappointed with this 7.7FX and Trek
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Trek Is Slow To Responed, Poor Components
Best Uses:
2015 Trek 7.7 FX, wanted to share. Recently I purchased a 2015 Trek 7.7 FX on 8/15/2014 at a cost of just under $2000. Disappointed is an understatement. And with Less than 30 miles on the 7.7FX to date the bike has been back to One Ten Cycle in Mendota Heights, MN. for a total of six service visits(currently still their). It starting with wheels that needed to be trued, and shifting issues. Over all the ride quality is nothing unique even with the so called 400 Series OCLV Carbon frame, the fork is soft, noodle like with a lot of movement under braking. I own a different brand full carbon bike equipped with the Tiagra components just as the 7.7FX is. Only difference it is a drop bar bike and the ride quality far surpasses that of the Trek 7.7FX. This has been a nightmare of a purchase and I still don't have a bike that will function properly, currently it is still sitting at One Ten Cycle being worked on? I would have expedited better service from the retailer on much better response from Trek, I have reached out to Trek, and my only response to date is: a generic email telling me someone will be in touch. In addition to I posted a review a week ago on the Trek review site regarding my Trek 7.7FX only to have it removed one day latter? I am reposted my feedback on this model hoping Trek has the integrity to post all feedback, not just positive.
I have owned the 7.3fx for years and abused the chit out of it. Rode that bike hard for 1000's of miles. Good times. I dreamed about the 7.7fx and the 7.9 for the longest time. Today I dropped the cheddar and got the 2014 7.7fx.
Bike is super stylish and fast as one can peddle (;. It's a blast running around Vero Beach, FL where everything in town is less than 4mi away. Hit Starbucks for a jolt and jam the bridge for the beach is such good times.
The 7.7fx is so light and shifts like a dream.
I love my trek!

I am a runner turned biker just 3 months ago. I just a finished a 400 mile tour of Southern Indiana over 6 days. I have 1600 miles on the bike over these months. '11 Trek 7.7 FX
Pros:
Comfortable, Lightweight, Fast and Smooth Ride
Cons:
Hard To Customize
Best Uses:
Road Biking, Commuting/City, Bike Path
I went with the Trek 7.7 FX in summer 2011 when I relocated to Minneapolis and decided to take more advantage of the area's extensive bicycling options. Prior to this purchase I was pushing a relatively heavy hybrid bike on 20-40 mile rides at about 16 mph.
I carefully considered road bikes but I preferred a slightly more upright position and desired the comfort features offered by the 7.7 FX. I just didn't like having to reach down to shift or brake today's road bikes. You still need high-end bike shorts and my butt starts to feel it after an hour, but it works well. I do miss not having a few more options for my hands, which start to get numb after 90 minutes.
My bike came with dual-mode pedals, which was also attractive as I have not yet converted to clip-ins. With sneakers, I average about 17.5 mph with very quick acceleration. I'm hoping for another mph bump with clip-ins. As it is, I find that I can keep up with road bikes on level ground as long as the headwind is below 15 mph, although I'm probably exerting more energy. I'm faster than most on the uphill, and lose ground on downhills.
My only gripe is that it has been hard to customize this bike with accessories. I was hoping to add aerobars but the handlebar shape doesn't accommodate the standard offerings. Even adding a cyclometer and lights are a bit of a challenge.

Nice performance!
Pros:
Comfortable, Versatile, Quick, Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Commuting/City, Road Biking
I bought this bike for myself. It was expensive, but at the top of the FX line, I think it is worth it. The bike is light, but it feels durable. I love the high-pressure, road tires. The geometry feels comfortable. I like the bars and grips. I carry a rack and fold-down bags on mine, and I enjoy commuting to work. The tires are durable. I run through tons of gravel and other road hazards in my rural area, and I have yet to get a flat.
I'm a bit older and bigger than I once was and have been through Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes and I have to say this TREK FX 7.7 will be the exact perfect bike for me for many years to come. More relaxed geometry yielded almost no soreness in my back, neck and shoulders on my initial ride (41 miles on W&OD; Trail). Honestly, there is not a single negative comment on this bike, all components and set up are matched perfectly. The team at my LBS were awesome during the test ride, decision process, spec review, purchase and delivery. For a mid 50's guy this bike is truely 7 out of 5 stars. Enjoy the ride.

Cons:
Best Uses:
I love to ride my bike so it is important to be comfortable. That is why I was looking for a bike that could move with decent speed but also had comfortable bars, was lightweight, and was a decent price. I found myself riding my mountain bike more than my road bike on most of my rides because of comfort. When I test rode this bike I loved it. Not only cruises well but love the bars and grips. I am a little older now and this bike fits me perfectly. I am now excited about getting on the road again. I highly recommend this bike if you want to be comfortable but yet rides great

Perfect bike to go to work every day. The iso zone does a perfect job on my not so fantastic roads. The way you sit on the bike is marvelous. It's not so fast as a racebike because of the more upwards position but it drives like one ( light feeling). I just bought this bike 3 weeks ago (model 2012) and I'm very happy with it. The choice of buying the 7.7 because of the 105 race group is worth it.

I have put over 1200kms on this quick fast & nimble 'flat bar' bike this winter in [...]. It handles the hilly terrain with ease & is extremely stable. I put 28cc Schwalbe Ultrimo tires on for a more smooth & comfortable ride & still maintain vg grip & speed . The iso zone takes the shock out of any bumps in the road . The iso grips have eliminated any numbness in my hands that I have had on previous bikes .The gearing is excellent for climbing hills. This bike has been perfect for my 70 year old body .

Cons:

Best Uses:

I was looking for a bike with the heart and soul of a road bike (light weight, quality components, good wheels)and the creature comforts of a hybrid (flat handlebar, comfortable seat, comfortable handgrips, 28cm tires). After months of research, I settled on the 7.7FX, and I am very pleased with it. It is easy and fun to ride and gets up hills reasonably well. As a bonus (and an earlier reviewer first pointed this out),it seems to be kind to the lower back. I also like the way it looks.

GOOD OPTION for a Roadie!
Pros:
Good Geometry, Responsive, Lightweight, Handles Well
Cons:
Riding position
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, Shorter social trips, Exercising, Commuting
The FX series really fills a slot for the road biker that wants to be "casual" for a ride. Jump on the bike and take a 20-30 mile ride with friends or with riders that are slower than your usual crowd.
Limited riding position at the front has less options to ride in than roll bars, so keep that in mind when on longer rides. This bike likes to roll over small hills with ease and is very responsive on turns and quick movements. The frame is lightweight and easy to rack or carry. The give in the rear triangle is a big plus for lower back problems, it gives enough to take a bump. This feature alone made the decision to up the $$ to a 7.7 from a lower FX model.

Great fun
Pros:
Fast, Handles Well, Comfortable, Responsive, Lightweight, Good Geometry
I'm a recreational rider, who bikes 40 miles a week on average and absolutely love the 7.7. It's a great combination of light weight, speed, ruggedness and versatility. I find the slightly forward upright riding position much more comfortable than traditional road bike drop handles, which had caused me some back discomfort on former bikes. I've taken the 7.7 on multi day bike trips with varied terrain without experiencing a single problem. It's gear range makes hills easy and on flats, I can go all out and fast in high.
I changed out the peddles, handlebar post and saddle to suit my personal preferences. The standard components are high quality and trouble free.

Great all purpose bike
Pros:
Good Geometry, Comfortable, Handles Well, Responsive, Lightweight, Fast
I bought the 2009 7.7 FX before the riding season started in Western, PA. I put in over 1,200 miles last spring, summer and fall riding both the bike paths and some roads. This is a fantastic bike on pavement. It's light and responsive. You'll want to keep this bike on the better maintained crushed limestone or paved trails because there are no shocks on this hybrid. On the flip side, no shocks greatly enhance peddling efficiency making this a fast bike for the trails. The 2009 model has Ultegra deraileurs and the 105 drive train. You'll find these same components on quality road bikes that are priced from $1,800 to $4,000. In addition, the bike is comparable in weight to a road bike with an aluminum frame. So, you should be able to keep pace with most road bikes. The riding position is a touch agressive for a flat bar bike. However, less agressive than a cyclecross or road bike with drop down bars. I completed a one day ride last fall that covered just over 70 miles and felt terrific afterwards. My wife and I frequently take 30-40 mile day rides on weekends. Not bad for an old couple a few years short of 60. My wife and I are looking forward to another season of riding as soon as the winter breaks. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone who does not exclusively ride the roads. It's a great all purpose bike.

Pros:
Good Geometry, Fast, Lightweight, Responsive, Handles Well, Good components, Comfortable
Cons:
Brakes Could Be Better, Stem could be longer
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, Commuting, Exercising
I was going back and forth between the Trek 7.7FX, Bianchi Camaleonte 5, and the Cannondale Quick. I ended up going with the Trek mainly because of the component group. I found that the 105, Bontrager set up was far better than that of the Bianchi and cannondale. The cockpit is perfect, however, I did swap out the stock 80 for a 110. The ride is fast and very responsive. The ONLY thing I would, and will swap out, are the brakes. I am going to put a set of XTR v brakes and levers. The wheels are solid, and the 30 gears are more than enough. Overall a very comfortable, fast ride. I highly recommend the Trek 7.7FX.

I ride for recreation and fitness. The FX 7.7 is a fantastic flat bar bike. I haven't been able to test it on unpaved roads due to winter weather. However, it's much faster, quicker and more responsive than the Trek 7300 I used to ride. The components on this bike are excellent. Shifting is smooth and easy. I believe you'd be hard pressed to find a lighter bike with an aluminum frame.

Great for the well maintained bike path
Pros:
Great Components, Lightweight
Cons:
Untested for offroad
Best Uses:
Pavement, Haven't tried off road
My wife and I are both over 50 and have been biking for about 3 years. We started out with the Trek 7300 hybrids and then decided we needed something a little faster to enable us to do longer trips (50-75 miles). Our riding has been limited 99% to bike paths (crushed limestone and paved). Last fall, my wife got a 2007 FX 7.7. It was a great deal because it was a unisex bike, size 15 inch, too small for a man and less attractive to a women since it was not the WD version. I convinced my wife that this bike would be the best way to upgrade to a high end component bike without having to put out mega bucks. When we both rode hybrids, we had no problem staying together. However, when she started riding her new FX, she blew me away. My wife was glad I talked her into the new bike. I ordered a 2009 FX 7.7 for myself and received it Christmas eve. The day after Christmas I took the bike in to get it fitted. I replaced the 700 x28 tires with 700 x 32's. I also exchanged by Wellgo pedals with Shimano 540's. Even though the winter months are cold in Pittsburgh, I did get a chance to take my new bike out a few times. The rides were all on paved surfaces. The FX was extremely light in comparison with my 7300 hybrid. Acceleration and climbing efficiency increased significantly. I was amazed at how much faster I could ride. The components on this bike are incredible. It has a Shimano 105 drivetrain with Ultegra derailers. Shifting is very smooth. The bike comes with Bontrager Race wheels and are light as a feather. The light wheels and drivetrain are what make acceleration and climbing seem effortless in comparison with the 7300's. My wife and I were both able to catch up with a couple of young men on road bikes during one of our rides. I think they were taken back, having been passed by two people 50+ years old on flat bar bikes. I love my new FX and would highly recommend it to a friend who planned on doing lots of riding. My wife and I can't wait for springtime when we can start riding 3-4 times a week. I'm also looking forward to trying the FX out on some of the bike paths. I'm sure it will be a little more bumpy than the 7300. But that's OK. We'll just select paved paths or limestone paths that are better maintained.

A Bit More Money But Alot More Fun
Pros:
Great Components, Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Pavement, Commuting, Bike Path, Rails to Trails
I have been very pleased with the purchase of my Trek 7.7 FX.
While I purchased the bike at Christmas 2007, living in North Dakota I was unable to ride until April 2008. Since that time I have put 1,200 miles on the bike and the product has exceeded all my expectations.
As this was my first exposure to carbon I was concerned about road shock and vibration. I am pleased to announce that my 260 lbs have had no difficulty whatsoever. The carbon just seems to absorb road vibration and the ride is excellent.
The smaller tires increase speed. My average speed has increased about 1.5 miles per hour over my Trek 7700. However I would caution the smaller tires are a bit more hazardous on the road. While riding on our bike trails of which some are concrete due to winter expansion I became caught between vertical joints and the sudden stop was a bit of a thrill to say the least. Use a bit of caution.
The components especially the shifting is excellent. This is the quietest shifting bike I have ever owned. The gears are like a fine tuned Swiss watch. The Shimano R773 Front Derailleur Shimano Ultegra Rear Derailleur work well together. I ride by cadence and my average cadence is between 77 and 82 revolutions per minute. In the wind or on a hill or on flat terrain finding the proper gear is a dream.
My only maintenance problem was one cable that stretched on the real derailleur. A quick visit to the great shop mechanics at the Ski and Bike Shop and this problem was a quickly remedied.
I have made three modifications that I know have been beneficial the first is in the bike seat. My dealer recommended a Bontrager Seat measured specifically for my hips a very wise investment. Secondly I did due to an accident change the handlebars. While this may not be necessary for most I have handle bars that are on a riser and a bit closer. I believe this gives me a bit more stability and feel of a safer riding environment. Third I changed the grip and went ergonomic this really helps in hand fatigue on long rides of 30 miles or more.
In closing I am very pleased with my 7.7 FX. The money spent is well worth the purchase price. Trek has made my riding experience a most enjoyable one.
Enjoy the Ride:

A Versatile Machine

Purchased 2/1/08Mileage to date: 1650My 2008 7.7FX is stock except:BG SaddleGC2 GripsStrada WirelessSPD Pedals (not knockoffs)Before I purchased this bike, I was looking at similarly classed products from several manufacturers. After a long absence from riding, I wanted something that would motivate me to get out and ride. I found it with this bike. After enjoying a spin on a 7.5FX and finding it to be a great fit, I knew my new bike would be an FX. The 7.6FX offered some comfort and performance upgrades over the 7.5 which made it yet more attractive. I was rationalizing the price difference between the two models when the LBS came through with a deal on the 7.7FX. "I'll take it!""Smooth...Agile...Responsive." Those were my first impressions on my initial ride around the neighborhood. The 7.7 just seemed to glide. One of the rear brake shoes did slide from its position on the rim during that first ride, rendering the rear brake useless. I also noted the FD struggled to move the chain to the large ring. The left/right brake and shifter levers weren't aligned either.Note to self: "LBS missed the checklist"Before my next ride, I properly adjusted the brakes (toe-in, setback from rim, and security), the FD (vertical distance from outer ring much too high and hi/lo stops off a bit), and the RD (tension). Much better. Since these bikes come mostly assembled from Trek (dealer mounts seat/post, bar, and wheels), the LBS may have assumed these adjustments were preset and correct. Not necessarily a good thing.Moving on. The word is that a good carbon fork and seat stays can smooth out the ride on the otherwise aluminum frame. I believe that's true when the design is right, as it is on the FX. Perhaps the carbon seat post helps, too. Overall, the ride is smooth, however I think possibly the tighter, lower spoke-count wheels and hardcase tires offset some of what the carbon is trying to achieve. That's somewhat annoying when you consider that a substantial chunk of the near [$]premium (over the 7.5FX) can be accounted for in the wheelset and additional carbon.I have heard of concerns about the durability of the Bontrager Race wheelset, specifically of cracks forming around the nipples. I haven't experienced anything to date, but I believe Trek will be reasonable should issues arise. The drivetrain is excellent. The 50/39/30 105 crankset and 12-27 cassette offer the ability to comfortably keep pace with drop bar riders of similar fitness. And between the shifters, the 105 FD and the Ultegra RD, shifting is absolute precision. The brakes, on the other hand, don't live up to the rest of the bike. While functional, both the Shimano brakes and Avid levers are about as inexpensive as they come. They represent an opportunity for a possible upgrade. Still, I think the MSRP could be better justified with an appopriate brakeset. As the length of my typical ride increased, I noticed the often-mentioned numbness that accompanies flat bars. The stock grips are very good, but I found myself searching for more hand positions (which didn't exist). A change to GC2 grips with short, integrated bar ends made a huge difference.I anticipate trying a different handlebar in the near future, quite possibly a "trekking" bar that will offer some additional hand positions for yet longer rides. I can also see this bike getting a rack down the road, too.Overall, I'm happy with my FX. While it could surely handle some light "off road" riding, it loves pavement too much for me to consider it. A great fitness bike, a capable group rider, a recreational stress reliever, or a quick commuter! Whichever you're looking for, the FX is versatile.I could almost rate this at 5 stars, but not quite there.

Great! Great! Great!!
Pros:
Durable, Great Components, Lightweight, Rides Well
Cons:
Best Uses:
Commuting, Pavement
I bought a lesser version (7.3WSD), and hated it. I was just going to tool around and pull my dog's trailer. I knew I had to upgrade, so I went all the way...before the 7.9, that is. And I love this bike! Climbs hills quickly, pulls trailer easilly, and just looks darn good.

I originally bought the 7.3WSD and hated it! Luckilly my shop (Peloton in Las Vegas), took it back and allowed me to purchase the 7.7. And I haven't looked back. I love to climb more than ever! And I feel comfortable going downhill at high speeds. I didn't feel too comfortable on my regular roadbike. Please buy this bike!!! Women, just change out the seat! ouch.

Heck of a bike!
Pros:
Absorbs Shock Well, Good Geometry, Comfortable, Lightweight, Great Components, Handles Well
Cons:
Best Uses:
I use this bike on my daily commute to work. My commute is about 25 miles roundtrip. For the first time ever, I was able to ride this bike right out of the store. Since I am a heavy rider, 300 lbs plus, I have always had to buy custom rims/tires, but not this time. This bike is tough, light and fast. The only thing that I had to change on the bike was adding a riser to the handle bars- much more comfortable ride. All in all, one great bike!

The 28 tires are an improvement over the 35's, but the ride is still as smooth, the only noise I hear is the sound of a smooth drivetrain. I picked up about 1 MPH average over my TREK 730.

Cool Bike. Worth every penny
Pros:
Lightweight, Good Geometry, Absorbs Shock Well, Comfortable
Cons:
Hardcase Tires slippery
Best Uses:

Bought this bike about a year ago. Fell in love with the geometry from the start. The bike is light and could keep up with other road bikes. Have done about 4000 miles and still runs good. Tires are very durable (only 1 flat so far) but slippery. I was 170lbs now 133lbs... see if a gym could top that!

Cons:
Stock bars are too wide
Best Uses:
Your ONLY road bike, Climbing, Casual Riding
I had hand numbess issues for years on standard road bikes. I bought this Trek and no more issues. It's an easy bike to fit to, and it runs right there in the pack with my roadie friends. It looks good, handles great, and you can ride it all day long. The only thing I didn't like were the stock handlebars. They were too wide. I threw some Carbon Ritchey's on it, and it's one sweet ride.

Great Bike To Get In Shape On
Pros:
Great Components, Handles Well, Comfortable, Absorbs Shock Well, Good Geometry, Lightweight
Cons:
Best Uses:
Weight Loss, Commuting
When I got my Trek 7.7 FX in 2006, I weighed 300 pounds. I've ridden about 1800 miles and so far lost about 50 pounds. The wheels have remained perfectly true and this bike can definitely handle the heavier riders.
I've upgraded the saddle and added bar ends to give some added hand positions. The bike feels like you're riding on glass. The carbon parts do seem to isolate high frequency vibrations, and the drive train is so quiet, you actually forget you're riding a bike.
This is a smooth machine with low enough gearing for older or out of shape riders. When I first got the 7.7 FX, a 5 mile ride was pretty taxing, but the bike is so comfortable in short order I was completing 40 mile rides with ease.
When I get to my goal weight I'm going to reward myself with a Trek Pilot.

Road Biking
I have loved road riding for years and really appreciate what a quality bike with nice components can bring to a spirited ride. But, I have had to cut way back on my riding because my traditional road bike was just not comfortable for my "senior" body. Enter the Trek 7.7 FX. I'm back to riding daily with comfort and speed. The combination of Aluminum and carbon fiber makes for a light and stiff chassis that rides like a dream.

I Have done several 70 mile rides and it handled
just fine. I've rode 1500 miles since May when I purchased it. I basically ride the roads with this bike. Have a Trek 7500 if I want the trails. Hill are no problems. I would buy this bike again. More comfy then traditional road bike's. At 47 I wanted a bit more upright bike.
