Saris’ Bones RS 3-Bike rack might as well be welded to your car—it’s that rock solid. Easy to mount and dismount, the rack has two stainless steel belts that are tightened by leveraged ratchet systems. Plus, two lower leg hooks and six grippy rubber feet mean you can set it and forget it. Ratcheting anti-sway straps keep your bikes in place, the arms fold down to keep out of the way, and a locking mechanism secures the rack to your vehicle for peace of mind.

Great bike rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I just purchased this bike rack and so far I am pleased. The product comes assembled in the box and is relatively easy to install. It does take some getting used to and only gets easier with practice. It's a little on the heavier side compared to other racks (not a bad thing), so be prepared. The ratchet system definitely secures the rack to the car and is very stable. Just remember to be cautious with the ratchets or you will damage your car. I did put some minor scratches in my bumper but they will easily buff out. I've only gone on a short trip with it (about 10 miles) but at higher speeds and winding roads and the two bikes held fast. My Giant XTC2 went on with no issues and my son's BMX went on will a little more difficulty but it did fit securely. On the way home he had a new mountain bike that fit on just as easily as mine. It seems that three bike will be a bit of a squeeze but I won't know until I try to get my wife's bike on. The only improvements I might suggest are wheel straps included in the box, the left hand key facing outboard instead inboard and maybe cable channels in the cradle. All in all, my initial impression is that this is a quality product and I made the right choice. Hopefully after some use I won't change my mind.

I dreaded going on a 35 hour round trip for Spring Break with 3 bicycles attached to the back of our car, but this carrier worked beautifully! We had no issues, no problems; if you need to transport bikes, this is what you need.

I bought this bike rack approxmately one month ago and found the product to be exceptional with one exception. The buckle on the stablizing straps would not lock into the strap after several uses. Saris was informed and as of this date they are in the process of being replaced.

Best Customer Service in the industry
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I've had the Bones RS now for a little over 2yrs and only had 2 small issues w/ my bike rack. -both times the anti sway arm has broken off and both times a simple phone call to customer service has resolved the issue w/ them sending the new part out to me within a week. (note to anyone who uses it... 1 bungee cord around the crank to the rack will hold it in place just fine) -both times it's broke is when I'm doing 75+ on the hwy and the wind catches the bike a certain way. ** customer service is truly amazing w/ this company

Saris Bones RS
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I use this rack to carry 3 bikes. It is a little tight for 3 bikes, but if needed I will remove front wheel. For smaller frame bikes must slide the arms to make it narrower for loading. Using it on a 2004 Toyota Camry and love how secure it mounts and carries bikes. The Saris stickers on the sides refuse to stay glued on. Wished it was compatible on some of the newer cars, as it would not fit on my sister's 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, so could not recommend it for her. Overall, a great system (ratcheting) without having all the straps like the Bones 2 and Bones 3, and you can lock it so it won't get stolen off your car, unlike the lesser models. I give it 4 1/2 stars.

Very impressed with one minor caution.
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
This is an outstanding rack and well worth the money. Nothing on it will scratch your car. It is easy to install and store. I have just 2 issues and you can solve these on your own. 1.) The rubber pads will leave marks. Not permanent but you will need to scrub clean when done. Solution = use a thin towel or something under the pads. 2.) Because of the awesome ratchet system which I really love, you easily have the ability to over ratchet and dent your vehicle. Be very careful not to over tighten. I use Gel pads under my black pads to help with the disbursement of stress. Works very well. Overall I LOVE this rack and I highly recommend it.

Almost perfect
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Brilliant design. Due to the high holding arms, when placing the bike, it doesn't hide the car number. Would get 5 stars if the locking keys were BOTH face outer side (one of them facing inside that is difficult to lock the device). I've got mine brand new with some molding left over on the plastic arm, at first sight, it looks like a defect at the molding process. so expensive product should be without such defects!!! looks like Saris final inspection limit is very low.

Great Rack, Great Customer Service
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I bought this rack from Saris and think it's the best thing on the market. Very easy to take on and off and the ratchet system is great. After a year of use, one of the ratchets on my rack took a little bit of elbow grease to detach. So I called customer service and they were incredible. They replaced the part for me and were very responsive and understanding. Great products and great customer service. I put them up with Bose in those categories.

What an awesome product. Went from a Saris rack with 6 straps to this one with 2 straps/ratchet system. Much sturdier, easier to put on, and lockable! Folds down easily for storage or while on car with no bikes. Nice clean profile does not take away look of my Toyota Avalon. Appears as it was especially designed for my car. Don't let price hold you back. This is an excellent rack and well worth the money. Wish I had invested in the Bones RS much sooner.

I bought this rack after trying to use a genaric trunk mount rack on my daughter car. Proplem was I could make the thing half way work but she could not. This rack ROCK'S !!!! She just hooks it under trunk lip, hooks and tightens the racket straps, sets bike on rack and secures with built in straps. Dont even try and look elsewhere for a trunk mount... if your reading this my guess is the bike your hauling cost more than the rack..

Love our Bones RS rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
We love how easy the Bones RS is to install on our car-only 2 straps to contend with. It installs in minutes without the frustration of multiple straps for attaching to your car-well worth the extra money if you can afford it. We would like to see a stronger locking system for the rack onto a car as other people have mentioned but it is not a deal breaker. That is why we rate it 4 stars vs. 5 stars. The rachet system to tighten the straps onto a car works easily and holds well so far. And we love the added bonus of buying and supporting an independent local business as we live in Wisconsin. We highly recommend the Bones RS.

Easy to use, unsure of available parts
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
The Saris Bones RS is an easy to install bike carrier, in fact we love it however, within a couple of weeks of it being attached to our car the cam lever fractured (it is the part on the arm lever) despite several emails to the top end retailer including pictures of the part, we have still (3 weeks later) not received a response that indicates the part will be replaced or can be sourced. This is frustrating as the reason we purchased was not just for the ease of use it was also the life time guarantee????

So easy to use!!!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I bought this unit last year...my partner was concerned about security I was concerned about ease of use. Originally I thought the price was a bit steep, but in the end we both thought that it was worth every penny!!! We travelled from Toronto to New York and it was fantastic. Once we read the instructions attaching it to the car was easy and by the end of the summer I was a pro at racking up to 3 bikes. We are no longer limited to cycling in the city. We can take up to 3 bikes with us anywhere! My only concern about this unit was the weight. I found it easier to install the unit with 2 people than just one.

Pros:
Cons:

I just bought a new 2013 Nissan Altima and wanted a rack that would fit it without my having to install a trailer hitch, which is a bit of a chore on the Altima. The fit calculator on the Saris website indicated that the Bones RS would work and indeed it does. I haven't taken a long trip with it yet but I'm confident it will work great. It's very well engineered and extremely easy to use. Can't wait for warm weather!

I Should Have Bought This Earlier...
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Previously, I was using the Hollywoood bike rack. After reading through the many positive comments / reviews, I decided to purchase and try it out myself. The main features I like about this model is the ease of setup and how stable it feels driving with it. However I am abit disappointed at the locking mechamism. Both supplied keys were stucked in the keyhole and the local Saris authorised dealer have to replace another rack for me.

Pros:
Cons:

We wanted a rack to fit both our vehicles. The Bones RS is a perfect fit. We have a sedan and a SUV and with just a few quick adjustments we can move it from one car to the other. The rack is sturdy and I feel that we will get years of use out of it. The price was a bit high but the easy install was worth every penny.

Great Bike Rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Only things i would change is the plastic adjustment handles (I am not sure they will last), add the adjustment numbers to the notches as it is very difficult to count them, and the adjustment straps to hold the bikes need to be longer. Also to prevent the front wheel from hitting the car I needed to purchase nylon straps to hold the tire to the frame.

I use this rack on a 2009 Scion xB. It stays on the car permanantly and gives me no problems opening the hatchback. I carry my TT/Tri bike with aero top tube on the outermost position with no problem whatsoever. I carry my road bike on any position with no issues. One hardtail MTB, one full suspension MTB, and one 54cm road bike fit on the rack, though with some effort to get pedals and handlebars to fit without rubbing. I use red shop rags to protect the paint on my bikes when tightening the straps on the rack. Have not noticed any damage to my bikes (and I have looked VERY hard)

Currently installed on a Dodge Charger 2012 with metallic black paint. The paint is not OEM the body shop had to repaint my trunk at one point very early on (months old). The rack leaves tiny marks I have have to buff out with a buffing compound like scratch-X. Would this be the case on OEM paint? - hard to say. If you have a car with swirl marks and some age to the paint I wouldn't think twice about this rack. I love how it works so much I might consider all paint blemishes moot on my car - simply a great rack for getting my bike to the trails. I wish I would have purchased this sooner. Seriously you are putting a rack with 100 lbs potentially of bikes on your trunk and you get a few paint marks (small mind you) thats stunning to me, awesome.

Bones RS - What a great bike rack!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
We followed the Bones RS instructions and everything worked great. The rack is extremely stable and the bikes and the rack move as one. We used velcro strips to ensure the wheels didn't spin. I really like the ratchet system. The only con is when I took the rack off, there were minor semi-circle marks on the care where the feet were positioned. A little polish/cleaner took care of the marks.

My girlfriend and I own a Honda Fit, and this Saris fits it perfectly. It took only a few moments to install (and a little bit of trial and error) but we have had no problems using it. We've put three bikes on it and it stayed perfectly stable. We've already put a lot of miles on the rack since getting it approximately 5 weeks ago. The cons: The straps that mount around the Seat Tube aren't large enough for TT bikes. The bike still stays firmly on the rack, but since that's normally what we're traveling with, this feature is less than ideal.

Just what I was looking for
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I needed a stable rack that would fit both my and my wife's car. The other requirement was that it had to be easy to install and remove. After a lot of research I decided that the Bones RS fit my requirements best and ordered it. Turns out this was a very good choice. I have borrowed a number of racks from friends in the past, including an other Saris rack (Bones 2) and none were as easy to install as the Bones RS. They also all had straps hanging all over the back of the car and looked untidy. The Bones RS installs literally within a minute or two, once you have the slides set to the correct position for your car. No hanging straps or wiggly parts anywhere. Once it is on it appears rock solid. The other nice thing is that it can be locked so you don't have to worry about somebody picking it off your car while you're on a ride. Sure, the lock is not high security and the actual locking part is plastic so if somebody really wants it, they can cut it off. But it does deter crimes of opportunity which I believe would be the majority of such thefts. Bikes are easy to load onto the bars and appear to be held quite secure. None of the bumpy San Diego roads have been able to shake the bike loose and freeway transport works fine too. We mainly use the Bones RS on a big station wagon/minivan (Mazda 5) so the bike is nicely tucked away and shielded from the wind. Two minor complaints/suggestions: - The position marks for the sliders should have easy to read numbers or marks to find the correct position for your car more quickly. - We fold down the carrier arms when not in use so the car fits in the garage with the rack on. The arms slide very hard off and onto the contoured parts on the rack. I applied a generous coat of dry lube which helps a lot but maybe there is a better way to design this? Overall I think there is no better trunk mounted rack available right now. It may seem kind of pricey but the Bones RS competes easily with hitch mounted racks and thus should count as a bargain.

Solid and Convenient, Worth every penny
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I commute to work and ride the river. park trails and PCH in LA. This thing is solid as a rock, I have driven at a max speed of 85 MPH, with a Mitsubishu Lancer with a spoiler over some horrible parts of the 101 freeway and it barley moves. I have used it for about a month now with no problems. Installation is quick and it also locks to the car, this definitely gives me peace of mind if I stop by the get some food after a ride. I don't feel I have to park right in front of the window to make sure nobody tried anything shady. The only criticism about the rack is that the arms have a difficult time sliding on/off the teeth during adjustments. It can become fussy since the rack is rather heavy also the teeth are so sharp it had stripped some parts of the arm, getting little shredded pieces of plastic in the way, this makes it even harder to adjust the arms. I have been meaning to shave it clean. although I have just been dealing with it.

Pros:
Cons:

I love everything about it, except for the fact that I have to tie down the front tire when I use it. If the down tube strap was stronger, or maybe more specifically placed elsewhere such that the bike wouldn't swing out as much at higher car speeds, you may not have to tie down the front tire. Small problem, though.

Fits the car and holds the bikes.
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
This rack holds onto my 2001 Forester really well, and although it does lock to the car, I would not lock my bike to the rack and leave it for a long period of time. The lock is mostly plastic. The straps don't keep my bike from swaying, but with a couple of my own, the bike is very steady. This rack works better for my road bike than it does my mountain bike; I can't get around the anti-sway strap landing on a cable stop on my seat tube. I have always used roof racks and this is my first trunk rack, and with some extra straps the Bones RS holds my bike as well as my old fork mounting roof rack.

Excellent Rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
This is an excellent rack. After a few installs, I now can install the rack and two bikes in approximately 5 minutes. I am willing to pay for convenience (i.e. no straps, simplicity), and this rack is well worth the cost. Very solid, very logical, and easy to use. I did not check durable, because I have only owned for about a month. The only negative (but it is the reality of using a non-hitch rack) is that I expect that there will be scratches / wear and tear on the lower part of my trunk to where a portion of the rack attaches. I have a Honda Accord. I do not really mind, because I expect the scratches to be small and almost unnoticeable. If I had a luxury car, I would buy only a hitch rack.

To Florida and back- no problem
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
We took two road bikes from Wisconsin to Florida on the Bones RS. The men's bike fit perfectly. We added the crossbar to the women's bike so the bike wasn't so high up in the air. It then fit nicely. We stabilized the bikes with rubber tie downs easily, so there was no sway. Although the bikes did lower our gas mileage, we traveled easily at highway speeds. When we stopped overnight, it was nice to know the bikes and rack were locked to the car. This is a great product.

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Had the rack loaded with two bikes for a 3000 mile trip through the southwest, enduring very high winds and sub-freezing temps in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. The rack was never a problem, and the lockable feature of the Bones RS took my stress and worry level down to zero. It was very secure during freeway driving and the down time at the motels. I gave my Bones two-bike rack to my daughter and bought this one for the trip, and I couldn't be happier. And Grandma likes my rack, too!

Excellent rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I did a fair amount of research before buying this rack at a local bike shop. We'd owned a hitch rack for years, but can't find it after returning from overseas, so we were looking for something to fit our current vehicles... a Ford Escape and a Nissan Altima (with spoiler). This rack fits both. The You tube installation video was helpful, but installation is pretty simple. The rack is very stable and has very good straps for securing the bikes so they don't contact each other (much better than our previous Performance hitch mount). The rack could be a bit heavy for some to install alone, but is manageable (I haven't had my wife install it yet). This rack is a little more expensive than others we looked at, but the versatility and features have been worth the extra cost. So far, this has been a very good purchase.

After the initial first time set-up is completed, this rack takes seconds to put on and take off. I hate those racks that have straps everywhere, which was one of the reasons for buying this! It is also pefectly stable, the bikes and rack itself simply do not move - at all!! Awesome product, great quality, with no faults noted what so ever!

perfect for traveling
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Used this rack to carry 3 bikes on a 2,000 plus mile trip. We loved it, it was stable, bikes didn't move or wobble. Good on both interstate and country roads. Felt safe leaving bikes on rack while parked at hotels over-night. Did lock the bikes on, and kept the rack locked as well. As an older female, I have no trouble installing the rack on my car, or putting on or taking off the bikes myself. I would highly recommend this rack to everyone.

Exactly What I Needed
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
This is exactly what I needed - a complete unit that easily attaches to my PT Cruiser hatchback. I've been using the RS on weekends for about 4 months now and so far it works great. It quickly attaches to the car without any scracthes to the paint. The straps are rubber-coated stainless steel that are key-locked adding a little bit of theft protection. The only extra items I needed were a bungee to strap down the front wheeel and a cable lock to secure the bike to the rack. Time will tell if the construction of the rack holds up because some parts of it are plastic.

Amazing, functional and Easy!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
We use this rack to transport to and from the local bike paths. Before, we would travel down and around busy city streets and I was very uncomfortable doing this with children once they had begun riding their own bikes and no longer in the trailer. This rack has enabled us to use our bikes again by allowing quick and easy transport to and from the trails via the back of our jeep grand cherokee, which even though they are only a few miles away, seemed like a hundred miles away until now. I am a little hesitant of putting this on my truck because i don't want to scratch it but so far after several uses, it has not left one single mark anywhere. Very impressive little rack and well worth the money! Thanks Saris.

So simple!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
My husband and I live in the suburb and wanted a bike rack that would allow us to take our bikes into the city or to parks to ride. I bought this rack for his birthday and we are both very pleased with it. I have to admit, when thinking about putting the rack on for the first time I thought, "This is going to take some effort and all I want to do is go for a bike ride," but it was so simple. The instructions were great, but we hardly even needed them. It was so easy to put on, even for one person. I don't worry about it scratching the car and it is very secure. I like the key that you can use so people aren't tempted to take it off. I also like it because it's simple to take off afterwards. I work in the city and park on residential streets, so I don't want to leave it on when I go to work. It's a great rack and would recommend it to my friends.

Probably the best boot mounted bike rack
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Wanted a three-bike rack that was easy to use and durable. Fitting is simple. Is rock solid once attached to the car. Takes about two minutes to attach or remove. Other than the weight I have no complaints. Costs more than most - but I guess you get what you pay for. No movement at all over two hundred mile trips. Has to be the best boot mounted bike rack available.

Thumbs Up!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I put bought and installed the rack about a month ago and so far I have really enjoyed it. It is very secure: both the rack to the car and the bikes to the rack. Also easy to use. As a female I was worried about how hard such a sturdy looking rack would be to handle, but it turned out to be very manageable. It is also easy to get the bikes on and off, and to secure them. My only complaints are that; 1-while it does lock to your car I think it should come with an attached lock for the bikes (I have seen this on other racks, and would like this feature) 2-As with all bike racks, it is hard to actually fit all the bikes it is supposed to (3). Even when I put only 2 on, either they must both go the same direction and bump handlebars, or go opposite directions and have the pedals collide. This seems to be a problem with all racks, and since I am relatively new to cycling, perhaps i have not figured out the trick yet.

I love it, but.....

I love this rack! I own a Volvo sedan and it fits perfectly. The only change I might suggest would be a way to secure the front wheel on the position closest to the car. Many times I have one bike on the rack. During transit, the handlebar will turn and the front wheel will spin. Once I got to my destination, the tire and spun enough to go through the bumper, removing the paint.

Worth the price!!!!!!!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
A friend of mine purchased this bike rack and i watch him mount it onto his trunk and saw how fast and easy to mount. I really like how the bike is secured to the rack, you dont have to really look in your rear view mirror anymore wondering if your bike has shifted or still there lolol. The only con about this rack and I really dont hold saris to (it is more operator error) when tightening down straps you have to be careful, because you can dent or deform back of trunk. As long you follow instructions your a good to go.

Love This Rack!!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
This rack is a must for people with carpal tunnel issues or other hand problems! Even with little strength in my hands, it's a breeze to install on the car. This rack gets used 2-3 times a week and will easily carry up to three road bikes on it. It's well worth the extra money to purchase this rack compared to other models.

Almost perfect
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I found the product easy to install and very versatile. It gave me great confidence that my bikes would be safer in transit. However I was very disappointed on only the second use of the rack when one of the yellow tightening levers snapped as I closed it. It appeared to be made of fairly basic plastic which is poor in comparison to the build quality of the rest of the product. What is even more dissapointing is to find that the life time warranty promised on the pacakaging seems to be empty words as I have had no response from Saris when I tried to source a replacement part from them directly, and have been charged by the supplier I bought the product from only a few weeks earlier to provide the replacement part. In summary the product is almost perfect apart from a few details but I'm left with a slightly bitter aftertaste with regard to Saris itself
