Saris Bike Porter Hitch 4-Bike

I got a 1 1/4 inch hitch installed on my car by a welder recommended by our local bike shop. We then went to the bike shop to install the rack, and it wouldn't fit in the hitch. Despite trying other racks that did fit in the hitch, the bike shop insisted the problem was with the hitch and attempted to file it down. The rack still refused to enter the hitch. We took the car back to the welder who tried several racks that fit in the hitch, and in the end they had to file down the rack to make it fit. I am very disappointed in this rack; after spending over $500 I have a brand new hitch and rack, both of which have now been damaged by their vendors in an attempt to make them fit. I cannot recommend this rack.

I have had this rack for over 3 years. It is excellent as far as ease of use, versatility and how well it is built. However, i think there are 3 issues with the design that can improve this rack significantly: 1- If you are carrying just one bike and you want to lock the bike, you have to put it at the farthest position and that creates unnecessary torque. 2-The straps can fall off if they are not latched and these are not warranted for loss, so you end up having to buy replacement straps. 3- The 4 positions where the bikes are carried cannot be moved in or out on the arms so when you are carrying road bikes, you cannot shove all 4 closer to the car to reduce torque on the rack.

Strong and sturdy. I've had it for almost 2 years and I'm very happy with it.

I like to keep my bike rack on my car at all times during the nice weather. This bik porter allows me to still get in my trunk and not have to remove the rack. It is simple and easy to use.

This is an awesome bike rack that allows my entire family of 4 to adventure together. We can switch between my Ford Explorer and the wife's Mercedes Benz GL450. The attachment allows the rack to fit in either size Receiver hitch. Saris makes a great quality product that will last. Also, made in Merica! You can't beat that!!!!

I bought this a year ago and it's great gets the job done

Tried other bike racks and no one could come up with one that worked as well as this one. Never had any issues except for loosing my key and that was so easy to replace. Thanks saris.

Comfortably fit four bikes on this rack which makes for great cycling weekends with friends.

Tilt feature allows for taking all 4 family member bikes, put the canoe on top, and still have access to the cooler in the back. Great rack!

A primary reason we purchased this was that it was made in the USA. We had some things we liked and a few we didn't. This is the first and only hitch mount that we have owned. The biggest issue we had was the lack of versatility in what you could use this to carry. We wanted to put our bike trailer on, but because of the size of the cradles the trailer handle was impossible to get on, without removing the fabric from part of its frame. The very first time we tried this I cracked one of the cradles and I'm guessing that's nearly impossible to replace. We were able to get the trailer on with two bikes through some creativity on our part. We've also tried with just two bikes. The problems we encountered were that if you put them closest to the end they swing a lot and there's nothing to secure them to. If you put them in the back position close to the post, it is a pain because you have to go over all of the other cradles and depending on your frame, there isn't a lot of room. Plus the ratchet straps are rigid plastic so they are always getting in the way. Once we do get them on we find that we have to use additional straps to strap them to each other and to the post, otherwise they swing. Women's bikes are almost impossible without adapters and kids bikes and tagalongs have no way on. Once everything is strapped together and positioned it works great. I love the option for built in security cable and hitch lock. It gave me enough confidence to leave them on the car at a hotel over night Another issue I had was with the model for 2" hitches. All it is is a sleeve that takes the 1-1/4" up to 2". During operation with a full load of bikes the rack will do some rocking. In that sleeve its slowly twisting the corners round which will add more and more rocking. You should have no sleeve at all and simply a 2" bar. Even though I want to support products made in USA, I wouldn't buy this again, based on how I would use it.

Very easy to install and also simple to use. I am satisfied so far. It does move a bit during the vehicle moving, but I guess that is expected.

The only drawback I found was having to screw in place the hitch pin. This means a tool must be carried with should you wish to remove the hitch at your visiting destination.

I regularly make out of town trips to biking areas and this rack enables me to safely carry my bike along with the bikes of my cycling friends and family.

Very stable and easy to install. Able to fit various bikes which require the Saris bike bar to part of the women's bikes. Saves a lot of time unloading and loading our 4 bikes!

Easy to get the bikes on and off the rack. Bikes are stable when heading to riding area. Have not used long distance yet, so will reserve judgement on durability

I needed a way to transport my road bike and wanted to be able to also transport my 2 grandchildrens bikes for any riding we do. I like the carrier very much and it is easy to install and remove and the bikes are secure on it.

Occasional bike transport use. I like the snow boot-like lock down straps. I broke my finger nail on the rubber ones other vendors use. Went together very easy. Bounces a little if bikes hung out at farthest position on my 1.5" hitch. Bought four bike unit, but only put two bikes on it separated so they don't touch. Four bikes might be a bit tight.

The Bike Porter is very easy to load and lock the bikes. I especially like its compact size when not in use.

This rack installs very quickly and does a good job of securing the bikes. Works with most but not all bikes very well. One bike frame I attempted to load could not be made to fit, but most others have been no problem
