Saris' Bike Porter Hitch 4-Bike has room for all your bikes. The durable T-design steel frame hauls four bikes of up to 35 pounds each and fits both standard hitch sizes. Ratcheting anti–sway straps secure and stabilize your bikes, while grooved rubber cradles separate the bike's shift and brake cables from the frame. The rack folds down to the ground so you can access the back hatch of your car, plus the top bar folds down out of the way when not in use.

Hard to Install or Use, Doesn't Fit My Car
Best Uses:
I got a 1 1/4 inch hitch installed on my car by a welder recommended by our local bike shop. We then went to the bike shop to install the rack, and it wouldn't fit in the hitch. Despite trying other racks that did fit in the hitch, the bike shop insisted the problem was with the hitch and attempted to file it down. The rack still refused to enter the hitch. We took the car back to the welder who tried several racks that fit in the hitch, and in the end they had to file down the rack to make it fit. I am very disappointed in this rack; after spending over $500 I have a brand new hitch and rack, both of which have now been damaged by their vendors in an attempt to make them fit. I cannot recommend this rack.

Great except for 3 things
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I have had this rack for over 3 years. It is excellent as far as ease of use, versatility and how well it is built. However, i think there are 3 issues with the design that can improve this rack significantly:
1- If you are carrying just one bike and you want to lock the bike, you have to put it at the farthest position and that creates unnecessary torque.
2-The straps can fall off if they are not latched and these are not warranted for loss, so you end up having to buy replacement straps.
3- The 4 positions where the bikes are carried cannot be moved in or out on the arms so when you are carrying road bikes, you cannot shove all 4 closer to the car to reduce torque on the rack.

This is an awesome bike rack that allows my entire family of 4 to adventure together. We can switch between my Ford Explorer and the wife's Mercedes Benz GL450. The attachment allows the rack to fit in either size Receiver hitch. Saris makes a great quality product that will last. Also, made in Merica! You can't beat that!!!!

Great security, terrible versatility
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
A primary reason we purchased this was that it was made in the USA. We had some things we liked and a few we didn't. This is the first and only hitch mount that we have owned. The biggest issue we had was the lack of versatility in what you could use this to carry. We wanted to put our bike trailer on, but because of the size of the cradles the trailer handle was impossible to get on, without removing the fabric from part of its frame. The very first time we tried this I cracked one of the cradles and I'm guessing that's nearly impossible to replace. We were able to get the trailer on with two bikes through some creativity on our part. We've also tried with just two bikes. The problems we encountered were that if you put them closest to the end they swing a lot and there's nothing to secure them to. If you put them in the back position close to the post, it is a pain because you have to go over all of the other cradles and depending on your frame, there isn't a lot of room. Plus the ratchet straps are rigid plastic so they are always getting in the way. Once we do get them on we find that we have to use additional straps to strap them to each other and to the post, otherwise they swing. Women's bikes are almost impossible without adapters and kids bikes and tagalongs have no way on. Once everything is strapped together and positioned it works great. I love the option for built in security cable and hitch lock. It gave me enough confidence to leave them on the car at a hotel over night Another issue I had was with the model for 2" hitches. All it is is a sleeve that takes the 1-1/4" up to 2". During operation with a full load of bikes the rack will do some rocking. In that sleeve its slowly twisting the corners round which will add more and more rocking. You should have no sleeve at all and simply a 2" bar. Even though I want to support products made in USA, I wouldn't buy this again, based on how I would use it.

Functional and cost effective.
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Occasional bike transport use. I like the snow boot-like lock down straps. I broke my finger nail on the rubber ones other vendors use. Went together very easy. Bounces a little if bikes hung out at farthest position on my 1.5" hitch. Bought four bike unit, but only put two bikes on it separated so they don't touch. Four bikes might be a bit tight.

A well built rack that is easy to use.
Pros:

This rack installs very quickly and does a good job of securing the bikes. Works with most but not all bikes very well. One bike frame I attempted to load could not be made to fit, but most others have been no problem
cost $25 more than a Chinese-made bike rack - I'd rather pay the premium and buy USA!!

We live in Santa Cruz and take up to 4 people riding at local sites that are up to 4 miles away. The bikes fit great and the rack is easy to deal with. It is in as good condition today as it was when I bought it 5 years ago. We ride weekly to twice weekly.

good quality, not for low hitch heights
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Mounts easily but extends to the rear quite a lot. Because of this, it bottoms out easily when mounted on lower clearance vehicles. Would be great if the 1 1/4" square stock that inserts into the hitch was offered in an S shaped style mount. This would raise up the rear most surface of the rack that now bottoms on inclined driveways, railroad tracks and pavement breaks.

Couldn't be more pleased :)
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I couldn't be more pleased with my Saris rack. I purchased the locking version of the 404 hitch rack (604) at my local bike shop and it has held up to everything I've asked of it. I have it mounted on the back of my Subaru Forester and it gladly and stable-ly transports everything from my Surly Pugsley down to my single-speed townie flyer and everything in between. I appreciate that the mounts can be turned in various orientations to accommodate either top tubes or seat tubes. Also, the lock keeps the rack secure to my vehicle and the bikes secure to my rack. Nice work, Saris.

Excellent Bike Rack!
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
One very nice feature is it comes with an adapter for a 2" hitch. Regardless of your hitch, it will work. Very easy to install and also locks onto you car so someone cannot steal it...not to mention the locking feature for the last bike on. Someone really thought about how to design this rack and made it reality. You will love this rack!!!

Just what I needed
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I like everything about this rack. I only have two criticisms: 1) I purchased the hitch rack with a lock and the lock is nice but it only fits right on the end of the bolt. This leaves a lot of bolt exposed. If someone really wanted to steal the rack, they could saw off the end of the bolt and it would still be usable. 2) The bike lock is nice but it only works if you have a bike in the first position (furthest from the vehicle). With only 1 bike, this creates some torque that causes the rack to bounce more than I like. So I put a single bike closest to the vehicle and use a regular bike lock. Works fine.

Simple to use
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Have my second one now, first one replaced under warranty. Clamp broke on freeway and almost lost my son's bike. I think this was related to not using the recommended adaptor for kids' bikes: the bike was more or less sitting on top of the rack rather than hanging from it. Replacement clamp sent to me quickly. Bought the adaptors and seems much more stable. Also, the lock broke: just couldn't get the key into it. At that point the whole rack was replaced under warranty. I was quite pleased with this: no hassle at all, they were very responsive. I mailed them the old rack and had a new one eight days later (and that included 2 weekends, so quick service). The rack is very easy to use. It does sway up and down as I drive, which I guess is to be expected with it extending out from the hitch. This was unnerving at first but after hundreds of miles of driving I am used to it.

MORE LIKE BIKE PORTER HITCH 3-BIKE
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
We are part of the growing demographic in cycling that has turned in their mountain bikes from the 90's-00's and want to ride some distance in comfort, but aren't interested in full-on road bikes. We therefore have Trek 7.5, 7.2 and a Specialized Cirrus Comp. in our family. We bought the 4 Bike Porter thinking our daughter may want to take a friend along. After first trying to get our 3 bikes on the Porter, it became quite obvious, there's NO WAY we're getting a 4th bike on this thing. It just won't fit. I LOVE everything else about it, it's just not a 4 (of our bikes anyway) bike rack.

"Mostly satisfied, mostly."
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I love the tilt feature that allows you to access your trunk while the hitch is still in place. I also love the ease with which the bike arm swings into place. I'm not crazy about how the rack fits into my 2" hitch -- there's a bit more give than I would like to see. Also, I'd like the bike lock to be a bit longer so that I could put a single bike on the second holder instead of having to place it on the outermost rack. Overall I'm mostly satisfied. For the price, though, I'd rather be ecstatic with it's perfection!
