Buy this taillight right now!
Pros:
Bright, Super Visible From Sides
Cons:
Mount Is A Little Loose
Best Uses:
Daytime Nighttime
I would buy Bontrager Flare R without even thinking for a second. I have used many other taillights in the past and I can easily say this taillight is the gold standard of bike taillights. Visibility is very important for us road cyclist and Bontrager Flare R does its job perfectly.
I see many cyclist on the road with poor visibility and I cringe. I worry about their safety. A taillight is not a worth anything when a car driver can only see you when they get really really close. It's often too late.
It sounds a bit pricey but it's worth every penny when you think about the alternatives.

Really shows up in daylight
Pros:
Super Bright, Fast Charging, Multiple Modes
Cons:
Slightly Pricey
Best Uses:
Daytime Rides
I was impressed with the brightness of this lamp. I had no difficulty attaching it to my seat post. It is easily removed for charging. Testing it in direct sunlight, it was quite bright and visible from well over 200 yards away. Drivers should easily see this from a long way away. While a little on the pricey side, I think the safety factor makes it well worth it. This is easily the brightest bike tail light I have ever seen or used.

Safety vs. Money = Safety
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I was hesitant because of the price and reading that others had difficulty shutting the light off. Neither of those reasons should prevent you from ordering. Money well spent because of visibility and everyone who sees the light wants one because of that. Turning the light off is easy - just hold down the button for about 3 seconds and the light turns off. Apparently these people have not tried holding the button down till the light shuts off. Easy to use. The difficulty for me was attaching it to the clip. LOL but once you line it up and it goes click you have a VERY secure attachment. No bumps are going to knock that light off! Really good product and could save your life because everyone can see you!

If you ride on the road, this should be your next purchase.
Pros:
Attention Grabbing, Charges Fast, Holds A Charge Well, Super Bright
Cons:
None Really
Best Uses:
Commuting, Road Riding
If you ride on the road either for training or commuting, this should be your next purchase. This light is super bright in the daytime and the flashing pattern is not steady, so drivers can't easily tune it out. The extreme brightness gives you visibility from so far away that even if a motorist is distracted by their phone or other passengers, they will have to look up frequently enough that they will see your light long before they get to you. I have had several drivers pull up beside me and comment on the great visibility. I used to get close-passed and swiped a lot on the road, but now the only drivers who know perfectly well I'm there, but they're jerks. Warning: If you're riding with a group, turn to the lower brightness or turn it off. Your training partners will complain of the blinding light when you're taking a pull.

Mount adjusts wrong direction, instructions wrong
Pros:
Bright Even In Daytime
Cons:
Mounting Bracket, Instructions
Best Uses:
The mounting bracket has adjustments for rotation (vert or horizontal mounting) and for diameter of bar. But not for angle of mount. When you mount this to your seat post, it points down toward the ground, negating most of the brightness. The instructions show it angled perfectly back, level to the ground, but I can't get it to point that way.
As for brightness, yes it is a bit brighter than my previous blinky, but I expected it to be much brighter. I guess lumens and visibility is a log type thing, where it takes 10 times more to appear double, or something like that.

Bontrager Flare R USB Taillight
Pros:
Speed Of Charging, Attaches To Bike Securely, Visibility
Cons:
Best Uses:
Road cycling, Commuting
When you need to be seen by drivers, this light is a great choice. After a commute to work, I realized I had lost my trusty Cygolite Hotshot 2W tail light. I retraced my route at lunch, to no avail. I bought this and it has thus far exceeded my expectations. Admittedly I have not had it long, but am very pleased. The daylight settings and side visibility are especially great.

Flare R Taillight
Pros:
Drivers Can See You, Multiple light modes, Many Mounting Options, Excellent battery life
Cons:
Best Uses:
Day and night, Road Bike Trails
This is a revolution in taillights brought about by the latest LED and battery technology. Despite what seems like a high price for a bicycle taillight, the Flare R is a hot selling item. When it comes to safety on the bike, the price is well worth the benefits. I've spotted the Flare R on the road many times well before the cyclist came into my view. That's when I started using mine during the day as well as at night. The only caution is to use the low steady or flashing setting when on a pack ride. The high settings are too much for the other riders. It's real simple to check the charge status with a red/orange/green indicating light. Charging is real simple with my phone cord since the Flare R has a micro USB connection. I always use the flashing, opposed to steady mode, since it does a better job getting the attention of drivers. This is what I've read in light reviews as well as experienced in our tests with our boys on their bikes. However, I've heard the steady light mode does help drivers better judge distance from cyclists at night. The multiple mounts allow for a quick connection to a saddle bag or seat post. Have fun and be and feel safer with the Flare R!

Bright Tail Light
Pros:
Variable Light Pattern, price, time between charges, Charge time
Cons:
None so far
Best Uses:
Daynight Urbancountry
I've used one of the earlier battery operated Flare tail lights and it's still going strong. I bought this one because I was riding my first metric century out in the countryside and had concerns about fast moving cars seeing me, especially since there were little to no shoulders on the road.
I used the daytime flash mode (brightest flash mode) and riders behind me commented on how far away they could see me. I always use the flash for daytime riding in the city to help be seen, then at dark I use the brightest solid mode.
It charges relatively quickly. When I use it mostly on the flash mode I notice that it definitely needs charging more frequently, but that is to be expected. I also like the side amber lights.

Amazing Light!!!
Pros:
Bright Extremely Visible
Cons:
It, Usb Cover Sticks Open, Have To Work At Closing
Best Uses:
This light is simply amazing! I have one on the back of my helmet and underneath my seat. I plan on getting 2 more to attach to the 2 extensions I have underneath my rear panniers. My friends won't ride behind me when I've got these turned on, they tell me they're "blinding". Drivers compliment me on the brightness. I'd say these are perfect (at the daylight) setting for daylight, as well as rainy nights, otherwise, use the regular setting. They charge up fast and work great. I used them on a ride to the Tsawassen Ferry and back from Maple Ridge and they lasted 8.5 hours. After awhile, the yellow one goes out to save power - this all on the daylight setting. I wanted to make sure the truckers on the SFPR could see me in the bright sunlight, which turned to black clouds, rain, blinding hail, huge headwinds, etc. Can't say enough good things about these lights.

Great daytime taillight
Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Use it for road cycling. Great product for daytime visibility. Every car that came up behind gave me plenty of room. Also really good in dark using lower flash mode.
