Description

Until now, riders had to choose between aerodynamics for speed and low weight for climbing. Enter Bontrager's Aeolus 5 D3 wheels. Named after the Greek god of the winds, these 50mm deep full-carbon beauties are handmade in Wisconsin from OCLV carbon and boast a Tour-proven shape for perfectly optimized aerodynamics at any yaw angle. They're faster on flats, faster on descents, faster in cross winds, you get the idea. And when the road turns up, these slick aero hoops climb with the greatest of ease. No compromises, no holding back, no more questions, the choice is clear.

I was able to have my 6 series Domane, Project One, bike delivered but due to cost effectiveness had to for-go the carbon rims. My first Madone 5.2 had xxx light carbon rims that were a dream to ride and I sold with no problems after 4 years of use. My Domane came with RXL TLR rims and they are fantastic, wide and comfortable. Only one flat in over a year and that was because a road strip ripped the sidewall. I rented these Aeolus 5's and after the first ride...I immediately will purchase either the 5 or 3 TLR. Bontrager has really outdone themselves on these rims. They remain compliant for just straight riding, don't get caught from the side winds due to superior aerodynamics, descend stably and very fast (3 mph faster on the same route compared to my RXL's. The most noticable aspect is the stability. The RXL's are a little chattery on fast descents and corners but these D3 5's have no chatter and make cornering a dream. When climbing, you will immediately notice no lateral flex or loss of energy. I was able to maintain a higher speed without standing on a few ascents and when I did stand, they take off at will. Because I don't race, I will most likely opt for the more all around 3 series with 25 mm tubeless tires but if you need an all around wheel and race or ride with a fast group (22+ mph) the 5's are the wheel that do it all. Try them first through the rental program then talk to your local retailer about how to purchase. you won't be disappointed!

Holy fast and light.

Pros:
super fast, AERODYNAMIC, Light
Cons:
None
Best Uses:
Road Biking
Very fast and light. They slice through the wind like nothing. Can get kind of tricky in high crosswinds but that's with any aero wheelset. Super happy with them. I only weigh 145 lbs so easy to get blown around on them. Overall well worth the price for performance. They also look cool!

Fast, Light, and Stiff

Pros:
Stays True, Lightweight, Well Built, Stiff, Good Breaking Surface
Cons:
Best Uses:
Road Biking, Racing
These clincher wheels are the best I've ever ridden. They are light, fast, and crazy stiff. I've broken spokes on other wheel sets, but these wouldn't even budge.
