Greater Snow King Area/Munger Mountain Area/Teton Pass Area
The Silver Star work on Teton Pass continues to progress: they are already below Crater Lake and moving down Old Pass Road. Heavy equipment remains on Old Pass Road during this project. To ensure public safety, temporary trail closures will be in place where machinery is working. To read the entire press release, click here.
From the fine folks at Friends of Pathways:
WY-22 Pathway takes a big step forward - Bridge and Pathway concepts approved!
Yesterday the Teton County Commissioners and Jackson Town Council made key decisions to move forward on the WY-22 Pathway that will soon connect the Wilson Pathways to the Town Pathways, including a safe pathway bridge over the Snake River. Friends of Pathways thanks our Commissioners and Council for their leadership and resolve to complete the missing link in the pathways system as soon as possible.
This project is funded by the SPET 6th penny sales tax voters approved in 2008. Elected leaders set a target timeline of completing the pathway by 2013. Their approvals yesterday set $6.5 million in motion, covering two key segments:
This isn’t your normal type of competition - this one makes sense. Ever notice how at the end of a kickball game, you realize everyone’s goal is still to run in a circle. Yeah - that makes tons of sense.
The Friends of Pathways Commuter Choice Challenge encourages individuals to use human powered transit instead of using a car. In fact, if you aren’t riding to accomplish a goal that you would usually do in a car, as in day-to-day activities or commuting to work, you can’t earn points. So riding around the block or up Cache Creek won’t add miles to your tally.
Michael Keane here (also know as Furball) rode his Jamis that he purchased from Fitzy’s last summer into 2 Commuter Choice Challenge Mini-Competiting victories. Nice job buddy!
Sounds great. Sign me up! Red Bell is making a splash at the Village this year with it’s Final Descent Series. It’s a 12 hour race this Saturday, mixing endurance with downhill adrenaline: two of a Jacksonite’s favorite things. If you aren’t into riding the race, you can always enjoy the after party at Nick Wilson’s.
Last fall Fitzgerald’s Bicycles was happy to find out that he could find someone to haul his old (heavy) monitors 4 miles to the recycling center. If you want to see this video on the big screen, be sure to check out the last Bike-In Movie tonight!
In addition, Fitzy’s will be donating a Haro Cruiser to the raffle! Beers under the stars, delicious brews, winning a cruiser, watching kids ride bicycles to save E.T. from the po-lice? Yeah, those dinner plans can be pushed back a day or two.
