FoP’s Pathway Report

Pathways Report, August 23rd, 2011

All pathways are open for use and we ask you to please remember your ‘Respect & Responsibility’ code, and consider the safety and enjoyment of all users. Pathways are mult-directional, multi-use, and walkers, runners, cyclists, rollers, and skaters all have the same rights and responsibilities while using these amenities. Please announce yourself from behind when overtaking other users, yield to the younger and more inexperienced, stay to the right, and always remember to pick up after your dogs! Additionally, please remember that on Town pathways, dogs are required to be on a leash – not just under voice control.’

FoP Trail Update

Trail Report, August 23rd, 2011
Greater Snow King Area/Munger Mountain Area/Teton Pass Area

All Greater Snow King Area, Munger Mountain, and Teton Pass Area trails are now open and riding well. The FOP trail crew worked with volunteers from City Kids and the University of Wyoming to fix a turnpike on the Hagen Trail and to make a reroute on the KC Trail. Note: the KC reroute is not yet open. The crew also spent time berming corners on the bottom of the Ridge Trail and took care of downed trees in Game Creek, Phillips Canyon, and the Fuzzy Bunny Trail.
The FS crew worked on clearing Wolf Creek, Ditch Creek, and the Highline trail all the way from Granite Hot Springs to Cache Creek.

The Silver Star work on Teton Pass continues to progress: they are already below Crater Lake and moving down Old Pass Road. Heavy equipment remains on Old Pass Road during this project. To ensure public safety, temporary trail closures will be in place where machinery is working. To read the entire press release, click here.

Major Headway for Jackson Hole Pathways!

From the fine folks at Friends of Pathways:

Big Progress for Jackson Hole Pathways — multiple great news to share -
Friends of Pathways congratulates the Town of Jackson, Teton County and Grand Teton National Park on new funding awards and major progress towards completing Jackson Hole’s pathways systems.

WY-22 Pathway takes a big step forward - Bridge and Pathway concepts approved!
Yesterday the Teton County Commissioners and Jackson Town Council made key decisions to move forward on the WY-22 Pathway that will soon connect the Wilson Pathways to the Town Pathways, including a safe pathway bridge over the Snake River. Friends of Pathways thanks our Commissioners and Council for their leadership and resolve to complete the missing link in the pathways system as soon as possible.

This project is funded by the SPET 6th penny sales tax voters approved in 2008. Elected leaders set a target timeline of completing the pathway by 2013. Their approvals yesterday set $6.5 million in motion, covering two key segments:

Furball rides his Jamis to victory!

This isn’t your normal type of competition - this one makes sense. Ever notice how at the end of a kickball game, you realize everyone’s goal is still to run in a circle. Yeah - that makes tons of sense.

The Friends of Pathways Commuter Choice Challenge encourages individuals to use human powered transit instead of using a car. In fact, if you aren’t riding to accomplish a goal that you would usually do in a car, as in day-to-day activities or commuting to work, you can’t earn points. So riding around the block or up Cache Creek won’t add miles to your tally.

Michael Keane here (also know as Furball) rode his Jamis that he purchased from Fitzy’s last summer into 2 Commuter Choice Challenge Mini-Competiting victories. Nice job buddy!

The 12th Hour is the Darkest Hour

Sounds great. Sign me up! Red Bell is making a splash at the Village this year with it’s Final Descent Series. It’s a 12 hour race this Saturday, mixing endurance with downhill adrenaline: two of a Jacksonite’s favorite things. If you aren’t into riding the race, you can always enjoy the after party at Nick Wilson’s.

BikeWire + Fitzy’s = Recycling

Last fall Fitzgerald’s Bicycles was happy to find out that he could find someone to haul his old (heavy) monitors 4 miles to the recycling center. If you want to see this video on the big screen, be sure to check out the last Bike-In Movie tonight!

In addition, Fitzy’s will be donating a Haro Cruiser to the raffle! Beers under the stars, delicious brews, winning a cruiser, watching kids ride bicycles to save E.T. from the po-lice? Yeah, those dinner plans can be pushed back a day or two.
